Pelosi Refusing to Support British on Iran?
Poweline ^ | 3/29/07 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 03/29/2007 12:13:28 PM PDT by CaptRon

It's hard to believe, but that's what we're hearing from Capitol Hill. A resolution has been proposed in the House of Representatives that condemns Iran for the seizure of British sailors and marines, expresses support for our British allies. It's hard to see anything controversial in that. But apparently, the resolution has languished all week while Pelosi refuses to allow it to come to the floor.

Earlier today, Congressman Eric Cantor wrote the following letter to Pelosi:

Dear Madam Speaker: Fifteen kidnapped British marines and sailors recently became the latest victims of a systematic Iranian campaign of terror and international defiance. The illegal seizure of the British forces is a signal that Iran views us as powerless to prevent it from realizing its aggressive ambitions.

For the sake of our standing in the world, our allies and most importantly the 15 British personnel and their families, I urge you to bring H. Res. 267 to the floor today before we adjourn. The resolution calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the British marines and sailors. It would also call on the U.N. Security Council to not only condemn the seizure, but to explore harsher sanctions to counter the growing Iranian threat.

A Republican Congressional staffer writes:

It is simply staggering to me that Pelosi refuses to stand beside America's closest ally. I literally would not have thought this possible, until I saw it this week.

Staggering, indeed. We'll see what happens this afternoon.

Beat me to the post...I just saw this and as much as I would like to, I can't say it is a surprise at all. Pelosi, Murtha and the left wingers have taken over the Democratic Party. She is so afraid that people will see that we are not the enemy in the Middle East that she can't even bring herself to do the right thing in this obvious case of Iranian aggression. Have you no shame at all Madame Speaker?

Bump to the truth.

Actions speak louder than words. The actions of the Democrat leadership are the actions of someone supporting the people that want us dead and the people that want to cause disruption in the world.

Blue collar non moonbat Dem voters should be ashamed to support their leaders.

I read on Free Republic last year that it would be good, for Republicans to get beat. To lose.

I read it didn't matter which party held the majority.

I loathe this woman's reign in the House.

I loathe anyone who voted in such a manner as to make her ascendancy possible.

I consider them to be traitors and they should be treated as such.

And, I taunt everyone I have ever heard express favorable feelings for "the first female speaker" as frequently as possible by mocking the muckhouse she has turned our Congress into.

She is not only an embarrassment, she is an abomination.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???? She refuses to stand by our brave men and women in Iraq and you can't believe that she won't stand by our closest ally? Is it any wonder why we Republicans lost both Houses of Congress. Start growing some big ones you Republican politicians and the aides that serve you or this country can bend over and kiss its a$$ goodbye.

Elections have consequences.

Balls on. You can't repeat that message enough.

And today's consequence, boys and girls, is that the freak-show Leftist now running the US House of Representatives is so fulled with rage and hatred toward our President that she simply cannot stand to allow him even the minor victory of offering moral support to a vital ally in the War that she is clamoring to lose.

Nancy Pelosi and her fellow surrenderistas are scared to death that the detested "Repugli-pukes" might obtain public support for their "dangerous", "militarist" view of Iran as being a threat to the US.

Just because Iran seized British vessels outside their territorial waters and kidnapped its sailors and paraded them in front of the cameras to humiliate and embarrass them. Gee: it's not like the Geneva Convention outlaws that sort of thing. Oh: it does outlaw that sort of thing? Well, "that's too bad", say the Democrats. "We've got more important things to do, like setting surrender dates for our troops in Iraq". After all, it's not like Iran has done this sort of thing before...

Worse than idiots; today's Congressional Democrats are dangerous idiots.

Elections have consequences.

She can't afford to let this escalate. If it does, people will start to get upset the Dems are not supporting the troops more, and start remembering Bush has been our bulwark against these types.

Rush said it best. The dems can't allow victory, because they are too heavily invested in defeat.

"It's hard to believe"

The "Powerline" guys are usually very astute, so I hope this phrase is merely an unthinking piece of rhetoric and not what John H. actually thinks.

It SHOULD be hard to believe, in a more rational world, but that's not the world in which we live. Not only is this not hard to believe, it's exactly what I would expect. The Treasoncrats don't support our own troops - why would they care about anyone else's??? Not even our closest ally and chief coalition partner matters to the 'Rats, compared to sticking it to the WH and focusing upon trying to make us retreat from Iraq in surrender mode.

The dems are salivating with power. They are unable to hide any longer the fact that they hate Western Civilization, the USA, its allies, and love the jihadist and other leftist dictators in the world.
If there is ever a dem president elected, we'll see a mad rush to full-fledged communism.

Yes, I know, and that's why I'm really expecting it to make its way through the blogs. I would imagine all the big bloggers will see it soon and draw attention to it.

I think it would be a significant embarrassment to the Dems if the resolution languishes without a vote through the recess.

Current line of succession for office of President of the United States, as specified by the Presidential Succession Act of 1947:

1) Vice President of the U.S. and President of the Senate
Dick Cheney

2) Speaker of the House of Representatives
Nancy Pelosi

3) President pro tempore of the Senate
Robert Byrd

Nancy Pelosi's henchmen have been successful in indicting Scooter Libby on perjury charges, and are conspiring to remove Attorney General Gonzalez from office. Is anyone sensing a trend? These are merely guages to see if they can proceed to deliver the coup de grace:

Impeachment and removal of both President Bush and Vice President Cheney for their handling of the Iraq War, with a side order of war crimes against humanity.

Then the Screecher of the House, Madam Pelosi becomes President of the United States.

Forget about the 2008 Elections - I sense we're witnessing a coupe.
