White House Withdraws Nominee Fox - Gave to 2004 Anti-Kerry 'Swift Boat' Group

WASHINGTON (March 28) - President Bush on Wednesday withdrew the ambassadorial nomination of businessman Sam Fox after Democrats denounced Fox for giving money to a controversial conservative group that undermined Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign.

Kerry, D-Mass., had criticized Fox because of a $50,000 contribution that Fox made in 2004 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Many Democrats blame the group for sinking Kerry's presidential hopes that year after it aired a series of controversial ads that impugned Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.

Kerry grilled Fox about the Swift Boat contribution during the Feb. 27 hearing, asking him why he gave money to a group that was "smearing and spreading lies" and had been condemned by members of both political parties.

Yeh, smears and lies John, smears and lies. What a laughable bafoon.

This is a reminder for anyone here that believes the Left has forgotten the Swift Boat Veterans and how they helped Bush in his re-election. The people on the Left, Kerry and his co-horts, have been nearly methodical in their paying back (some in the courts) and public destruction of Bush supporters that took a stand against Kerry in 2004.

Sounds to me like the President has also forgotten. Didn't exactly go to the mat for the guy did he?

Unfortunately, the left has turned "swiftboating" into a pejorative, rather than what it is: telling the truth.

That needs to be repeated. Even Gore wasn't as Sore a Loserman as Kerry. What a disgrace to have someone like that in our Senate.

Bush will go down in History as a failed President simply because he could not or would not defend himself or his positions.

I contributed to the Swift Boat Veterans and I am ready, willing and able to defend my position any time, anywhere to anybody.

The problem is not that a $50k contribution was made. The problem is that when faced with ANY challenge lately, the Bush White House runs. I love POTUS but this lack of resolve reflects poorly on him and his administration.

I contributed about $150 ... without question it was money well spent. In fact it was the only political contribution I've made over the years that clearly brought about the desired result.

What the heck, I'll post the same comment here as on the other BDS thread:

Question to all those suffering from BDS convulsions (there are a number of you on this thread): which party controls the Senate? If you don't see where I'm going with this, I question your qualifications to opine on this issue.

Read the article, FReepers. Fox did not defend himself or the Swift Boat Vets either in his testimony before the Senate. You cannot play nice or fair with Dems; to them, it's a sign of weakness.

Loyalty has always been expected to flow up...but not down.

For God's sake, the Senate recesses for Easter in a week. He couldn't wait and recess-appoint him as ambassador?

time for the Bush presidency to wind down- this was spineless

why give in to partisans every time they whine like spoiled brats???

let them refuse to confirm ambassadors using spurious excuses of contributing to a lobby/public information group composed of honorable war veterans-

I am very disappointed at the White House kowtowing to partisan hacks. Kowtowing only emboldens - as we are seeing

It wasn't "the Left" that withdrew Fox's nomination. It was President Bush. By backing down and dumping Fox, he feeds the myth that what the Swift Boat Veterans bravely did was somehow wrong, improper, or illegal. I hate politicians who put politics before principle. This is another example of exactly that.

Lies, my ass.

Please forgive the following rant. I just can't help myself.

John Kerry's ENTIRE political career was founded upon his service in Vietnam. He never neglects mentioning the fact that he served in Vietnam whenever he makes a public appearance.

All the other 2004 presidential candidates with military service records signed and submitted Standard Form SF-180 releasing their ENTIRE military records to the public, INCLUDING George W. Bush.

The one and only candidate whose entire political career was founded upon his military record, John F. Kerry, refused to sign and submit Standard Form SF-180 releasing his ENTIRE military record to the public.

JFnK, to this day, has not released his ENTIRE military record to the public, which was all the Swiftees wanted.

These same people think there was nothing wrong with SeeBS/Dan Rather publishing FORGED documents about George W. Bush's military record on the eve of the election (nothing "politically motivated" there, eh?), but somehow it's "politically motivated" to expect YOUR presidential candidate to release his OFFICIAL military record to the public, and give him MONTHS to do so?

John Fraud Kerry could have ended the Swiftees' campaign at any time by signing Standard Form SF-180 releasing his ENTIRE military record to the public and submitting it to the Federal Records Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Had he done so, he would be POTUS today.

Unless, of course, there was something embarrassing in those records, in which case the American public had a right to know.

If Sam Fox ask the Pres. to withdraw that is fine.

Senate votes down Sam Fox that is fine. Next time if a dem Pres (May God have mercy on us) nominates a person who gave to left wing organization precedent is set.

I think that is why posters are disappointed.

You didn't MENTION #17, and now that I've READ it...

I'm convinced you've got some kind of chip on your shoulder.

Yeah, Bush has done OK on the GWOT....but,

He's failed MISERABLY on the illegal alien and border issues.

He's completely ABANDONED the Western States when it comes to his "campaign promises" to roll back the idiotic green weenie provisions in the Depts. of Agriculture and Interior which are DECIMATING the natural resource industries and state economies along with them.

I don't recall him whipping out his "veto pen" all too often, regardless of rhetoric to that effect.

Then there's Tom Ridge's less than stellar performance as head of Homeland Security....I mean....duct tape and visqueen as a response to terrorist threats of Bio-Chemical Weapons usage?

Now, according to YOU...

Which of those is the "dumb" part I'm "playing"...???

~~~~~~~
You can go ahead and play your silly little name calling game, but it's NOT going to change the facts.
Besides, when I see 'BDS' I think "Blower Drive Service", as in DRAG RACING, not some toothless epithet thrown around by those who prefer to ignore reality.
If people are wondering why the Democrat onslaught - it is because Pres. Bush has lost the will to fight.
Message to WH: Please stand up and fight for your beliefs and values - and more importantly the men and women over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each loss, each refusal to fight is more blood for the Bolshevik Dems and appeasing Republicans like Hagel.
