He did not offer an apology, something that had been demanded by gay rights groups.

You are using an analogy that is not relevant to the military situation. What you say makes sense. It just doesn't apply.
To: KeyLargo
Pace did not apologize. He simply said he "would have talked less" about his own personal views on the policy. Some people will try to spin this as a victory for political correctness, but it's not. The man still holds the same view.

Ok, this is the last time I'll post on this subject, because I don't want to beat a dead horse. How does the analogy not apply? Even if it is imperfect (as all analogies are) the basic principle still holds. You can admit people to organizations (like the military) even when you strongly disagree with aspects of their behavior. You can even do so, whilst placing restrictions on their undesirable behavior. If the military really did not want gays to serve, then they could simply say "Don't bother enlisting even if you keep your sexual behavior completely private." That would be a clear-cut policy against homosexuals as opposed to a policy against homosexual behavior.

Thank you for admiting my point. They knowingly accept people who do immoral things, even though they (in this case the general) think it's harmful to the country. It's like the kid who closed his eyes and thought the problem would go away because he couldn't see it.

The root cause of AIDS is gay sex. So it's not just immoral, it's a threat to the public welfare.
To: pleikumud; All
AIDS is a disease. It doesn't care if you're gay or not.
Look, folks, I'll make this real simple. I don't give a rat's ass what people do in their private life as long as they can do their job. Or maybe all of you "Real conservatives" who are so gun-ho about supporting the troops are okay with getting rid of people like this and others we need.

"The root cause of AIDS is gay sex."
Notice that I said "root cause", meaning "first" or "original" cause.
Then it spread to heterosexuals by blood, needles, prostitutes, etc. In other words, if there had never been gay sex we would not have a worldwide AIDS health crisis.

Ain't that the truth. You feel like you need a shower after you leave that place!
Here's a classic:
"Gay people help pay your salary. As your employers, we demand, that's right, not request, but demand that you keep your trap shut about your superstitious beliefs that homosexuality is somehow "immoral." If you want to spout your antediluvian beliefs in your church or to your family, be our guest. But if you are interviewed in your official capacity as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States by a major newspaper, we order you to keep your foul bigotry in check.
Oh, and btw, Peter Pace, your name is just about the gayest name I've ever heard. Right up there with Tommy Tune."
This General should be commended for speaking out against immoral behavior. He shouldn't be made to apologize on his opinion on a policy. I think it is a good policy as the military should not openly support such things as adultery and sodomy.
To: WestVirginiaRebel
This is from the same story but a different thread...
Put another way, having a homosexual in your unit is no more nor less difficult than having a man who thinks he is a walnut. If the walnut is brave and a good shot, you might rather not correct the problem.
The largest reason for not allowing openly homosexual men serve in the military is that it destroys unit integrity. The military is built on interchangeable troops fullfilling the role of the unit to break things and kill people.
Your analogy fails on two levels. One, comparing the traits of individuals. It doesn't matter if you have a homosexual man who has a 140 IQ, runs a 4 minute mile, and can shoot the eye out of a rattle snake at 1000 yards. This person has to function in a unit. He will never operate mano-a-mano on the battlefield. As such the needs of the unit to function the best, outweigh the strengths of the individual.
Two, there is no strong moral under pining in America against people who think they are walnuts. When you consider that most of our Armed forces are composed of rural people with traditional Christian values, you have to be prepared to live with the values of those in your unit. This could be over-turned in the coming years as traditional Christian values are criminalized and the majority of service people become more accepting of male anal sex.
I hope that day never comes.
Sincerely

Look, folks, I'll make this real simple.
Let me make this very simple for you first. You referred to General Pace as a "moron". I think you owe everybody here on this thread and General Pace a retraction and an apology.
I don't give a rat's ass what people do in their private life as long as they can do their job.
Well I give a damn. Deal with it. Do you think the military should let in people who practice bestiality?
Or maybe all of you "Real conservatives" who are so gun-ho about supporting the troops are okay with getting rid of people like this and others we need.
I really get sick and tired of the trumped up hysteria and whining from the advocates of deviancy. I cannot join the military because of medical issues. Do you hear me whining about medical discrimination? Why is it "fair" for me to be discriminated against for something that is not my choice, and yet it is "unfair" for the military to discriminate against something that IS a choice?
From the article that you linked to:
Alva knew it when he enlisted at age 19 in 1990, but even though he acknowledges lying on his application when asked about his sexual orientation, it sounds as if deciding to pick the Marines over the U.S. Army weighed more heavily on his mind.
Are you aware that there are a large group of homosexuals who knowingly join the military so they can be booted out? It's like some badge of honor with them.
Also, don't you think it's a little strange that ABC is NOW concerned about troop levels? Where were these idiots from ABC back during the 1980's?

You are correct.
Hopefully, after G.W. gives him up as I believe he will, to the the pressure from the libs the general will leave with his head held high.
To: WestVirginiaRebel
How's that apology coming along? Where is it?
