Prosecutor: Nurse had flesh on shoes, Defense to have expert review sample in murder case

After killing and dismembering her husband, a fertility clinic nurse walked through bits of flesh that were picked up by her shoes and left behind in the victim's car when she abandoned it in Atlantic City, a prosecuting attorney charged yesterday.

Assistant Attorney General Patricia Prezioso called the discovery of the human tissue a critical piece of evidence and said it directly links the nurse, Melanie McGuire, to the slaying of her husband, William McGuire, in their Woodbridge apartment on April 28, 2004. While the prosecution contends it has substantial amounts of circumstantial evidence implicating the 34-year-old nurse in the homicide, the presence of bits of severed flesh is "the only thing we have that puts her with the body," Prezioso said.

The prosecuting attorney further argued the skin fragments "came from the bottom of her (the nurse's) shoes," and were recovered from William McGuire's car after his wife dumped his blue Nissan Maxima outside the Flamingo Hotel in Atlantic City two days after the slaying. Prosecutors previously revealed police discovered bits of the victim's tissue, described as "human sawdust," in the Maxima, and said they could prove the nurse dumped the car to keep police off her trail. But until yesterday, they never offered their theory on how the dead man's skin got into his car.

New York celebrity lawyer Joseph Tacopina jumped to his feet, appearing surprised by the prosecution's sudden outburst. He objected to the disclosure, arguing there is no evidence in the case to suggest the tissue was tracked by the nurse's shoes. "When was this established?" Tacopina angrily demanded as he accused the prosecution of playing a game of "connecting the dots" without any evidence to support the links.

There are bits of flesh on the floor of the victim's car, so his wife MUST have tracked them in on her shoes? No other killer could have done so?

If the prosecutor says this is "the only thing we have that puts her with the body," then he's probably lost the case.

If you don't have the shoes, you lose, to be Cochranish.

She's out on $2.1M bail, and the defense has hired Michael Baden. Impressive for a nursing career.

Were several strange men seen jumping into a taxi in front of the victim's house? Was the victim addicted to drugs obtained from Colombian drug dealers?

Sounds fishy to me. Most prosecutors are liars these days.
