Carbon Offsets: Today's Version of Indulgences?
3/08/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 03/08/2007 1:01:59 PM PST by Reaganesque

In the early part of the Sixteenth Century, some Catholic priests, mainly in Germany, were accused of selling Indulgences to rich patrons who donated towards the rebuilding of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Indulgences, as practiced by these particular priests, forgave the sinner of his or her sins for a fee. This was a corruption of Catholic doctrine so let's not get into that aspect of this subject; however, it does bring up an interesting point (or analogy) about today's politics.

Today, we have the "Pope" of all Eco-lytes Al "The Benificent" Gore and his minions, handing out carbon offset credits to rich people who do not wish to change their power gobbling lifestyles so they can be "carbon neutral". So what was a perversion of religious doctrine in it's time is now reincarnated to save the souls of the rich Liberal to redeem their souls from Eco-Hell. Just thought that was an interesting parallel.

Please, no Catholic bashing here. This is not meant to criticize anyone other than the man-made Global Warming cultists. Comments?

a perversion of religious doctrine

I think that is all it is. It is kind of one of those things that make sense as long as you don't think about it too much...or at all.

Pretty good analogy.

Liberalism, today's incarnation of it anyways, is a quasi-religion in and of itself. For the committed Lib, politics is vastly more important than family, friends, God and country.

If anyone neeeds carbon credits, call me, I'll sell you some. $20 a piece. No problem, I can print reams and reams of them!

Sure, they are useless, but then again, so is the whole concept.

The first time I heard about "carbon offsets" I thought about this analogy. You nailed it.

Another analogy occurred to me about Kyoto - to human sacrifice to appease the gods. In the modern version, if the world sacrifices X% of its economy (to be determined by the high priests of the UN) to appease the Goddess Gaia, the warming will stop.

If anyone hears a reply from Al. please let me know.

The Catholic Church may have sold indulgences, but in this case Algore is part owner of the church!

where the "carbon credits" are coming from

In Al's case, they're bought from his own company, Generation Investment Management, an investment company that charges a fee and buys "green" company stock for you. So he can make a profit from the stocks he buys and his share of fees the company charges.

Sounds kinda like a "circular" version of Amway. He convinces people they're going to kill the earth if they don't use green technology or buy "indulgences" from him. Either way he lines his pockets with profits. Convince people they're sick and sell them medicine to get well.

If raising animals is contributing too much to Global Warming, I'm certain Al Gore would be willing to switch to eating people. That way it's two birds with one stone!

Liberals accuse the religions of killing people. Who was doing the killings in Russia in 1917-1939, China 1945-1965 or later in Cambodia. Missionaries?

That would bring up the old classic "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston screaming, "Soylent Green is people!"

I just mentioned PETA. I wonder what their position is on cannibalism.

Well, at least in theory nations are supposed to reduce carbon emissions under Kyoto for real, capable of measurement. So far as I can tell right now, the "carbon offsets" ordinary people are buying seem to be a sham, nothing more than donating money to some environmentally oriented charity or company.

The Eco-sucker "invests" in companies that Global Investment Management, a non-profit and therefore non-taxable corporation (aka The Eco-suckee) founded and chaired by the Algore himself, has devined as being eco-friendly.

They also plant trees. A formula I heard says that one full grown tree absorbs the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide created in one hour of flight time, per passenger, per jet.

Ergo One passenger traveling from NYC to LA would require 10-12 full grown trees per round trip to "offset" their carbon footprint and return it to zero.

If Capone had only lived.

I'm Catholic. Indulgences were frauds perpetrated by men, power and money hungry, masguerading as priests and lording it over the faithful to 'buy' their way to heaven. I'm not offended. Algore is just like that, masquerading as our 'Pope' of the ecolytes. Notice only the big offenders, eager to assuage their guilt and not have to change their ways (Ed Begley Jr aside) are lining up for this scam.

transfer of wealth

Oh yeah, big time. And for what? Even according to the envirowacko "models" we get negligible reduction in temps at an enormous price, and IMHO the reduction, if any, will be even less. It sure is evidence of the wealth of the West that people are willing to waste such vast sums.

But, IMHO, that's why you're seeing big business change it's attitude toward global warming. They see the megabucks that will be spent, and so there's gotta be a way to make money on it.

Does an ex-politician like Al Gore, as he flies around the world doing his PowerPoint show, collecting his Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth, lapping up praise from an uncritical media and kidding about whether he'll run for president, strike you as someone who truly believes we're facing Armageddon?

"People like Al Gore jet about the earth, living from mansion to mansion and say that they want to drastically lower the living standards for most people on the earth. Then, the so called peoples's people, who talk about "eqality" the most, think this is just fine."

Carbon Offsets: Al Gore's Big Easy

Gore's carbon footprint may be the size of Godzilla's, but he eases his conscience with "carbon offsets." He buys them from himself. And every time someone else buys them, Big Al gets richer.

...Speaking of carbon offsets and shell games, guess where Gore buys his carbon offsets? Well, he buys them from a firm call Generation Investment Management LLP, a tax-exempt U.S. 501(c)3 corporation. The chairman and co-founder is Al Gore. In other words, he buys his carbon offsets from himself. Others who buy these offset are really buying stock in Gore's growing business. You, too, can green up his portfolio, if not Earth itself.

"And promoted by financiers trying to make a buck in trading the non-product product of 'carbon credits,' global socialists who want to impose a socio-economic system to control American wealth and property, and communists who see it as a method of wealth redistribution."

And... I might add... A system of "indulgences" issued by the church of "Born Again Pagans" and it's "Pope" Algore the Mark of the Beast!!!

For $666 and 3 labels from a CA redemption valued plastic bottle, you are entitled to continue exhaling your breath, even though your breath is largely CO2!!!

Just send your $666 to Mark of the Beast, POBox 666, Goretown, US 66600-6660 and you too can be redeemed!!!

Plus! You'll recieve a miniture statue of Oscar to replace that useless statue of St. Christopher on the dashboard of your Escalade SUV so it can be redeemed, too!!!
