I don't think the Dems will go with heft, depth and substance. Did McGovern or Carter or Dukakis or Clinton have those qualities? They were nominated. Winning Dems have had little besides good press, good hair and a youthful image.
Personally, I'm always amazed that anyone fears Hillary or Obama. We'd have much better chances in '08 if either of them won the nomination.
