I like your thinking on this issue.

I actually could not listen to all of Rudy's, but Mitt's was great."

My reaction too. Julie bored me. Mitt's wife is a real star for that campaign, a truly gracious woman.

Romney is upbeat and optimistic. He can make the crowd feel good. Reminded me a little of Reagan.

When they get Romney's campaign spiel fully tuned, it's going to be wildly effective.

"My only question is, is he tough enough mean enough to take on the clinton smear machine?"

Romney has dealt with the worst the Left can dish out in Massachusetts over the last four years.

As a conservative governor in the most liberal state in the U.S., Romney was savaged by the Boston Globe on a weekly basis. He was called every name in the book by abortion rights groups for his pro-life stands and by gay activists for his defense of traditional marriage. Racism charges where leveled against him when he sought an arrangement where MA State Troopers could investigate and arrest illegal aliens and when he vetoed other legislation favoring illegal aliens. The Boston Globe spun every allegation as if it were fact. They hate his guts for governing so far to the right.

Nobody ever put a finger on Mitt for anything in his personal life. The AP was so desperate to find something they had to resort to investigating his great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. The Democrat Media is shooting wildly and constantly at anything to dissuade the Republicans from giving him the nod. Their buddies at the Boston Globe have gotten the word out that Romney is not someone the Dems will want to face in the general election.

"Any idea who would possibly be on his "short list" for VEEP?"

I haven't given this much thought. I'm most familiar with politicians in Texas. I think U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) would be one on the short list. Newt Gingrich is a possibility because the two men are well suited ideologically and they share a mutual respect.

I just hope that Romney, or any other Republican nominee for President, does not consider Republican Gov. Rick Perry of Texas for the VP spot. I wish Gov. Romney had been our governor in Texas for the last four years instead of Perry. Romney is far more conservative on fiscal issues and tougher on border security than Perry.

"Would he fight for its repeal though?"

You have it correctly, misterrob. The exact quote from the audio recording is:

Romney: "If I’m elected President, I will fight to repeal McCain-Feingold."
If there is one thing that Mitt Romney knows, it's what can and cannot be done to legally fight a Supreme Court ruling (e.g., MA Supreme Judicial Court ruling in same-sex marriage) :-)

What's Romney's current position on dealing with illegal immigration and the borders? Does it mirror Duncan Hunter's position?

"Mitt's wife is a real star for that campaign, a truly gracious woman. "

They were on some interview last week and the reporter asked her if she was for stem cell research if it would cure her MS and she said "No, my husband and I don't believe we should kill a life to save mine" !

She may turn out to be way better then we know :)

Do they have a year's worth of supply of food and water in their house like most mormon's? I curious. Any news on this? What actually is it for?

I read some interesting comments about LDS and racisim. Seems a coincidental revelation from God came to them to end the racisim, once the IRS threatened to take away their tax exempt status:

"Brigham Young, who led many of the Mormons to Salt Lake City, UT wrote:

Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African Race? If the White man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so.

Cain slew his brother. . . and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin.

You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the 'servant of servants;' and they will be, until that curse is removed."

There was a groundswell of opinion against racism by many Americans who recognized the centuries of injustice against African-Americans. It was an era of desegregation and agitation for civil rights. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service threatened LDS's tax exempt status because of the church's discrimination against African-Americans. Additional opposition came from sports groups which threatened to cancel events with the LDS' Brigham Young University. Anti-Mormon religious groups promoted boycotts of church businesses and of Utah tourism.

The matter of racism was instantly resolved when church received a new revelation from God. On 1978-JUN-6, LDS leaders announced that "all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color." Racism within the church was immediately terminated. Male African-Americans are now regarded as full members of the LDS and are eligible for consideration for ordination. Black women remain excluded, as are all other women.

Never got answer did you? I am Hunter fan and see Mitt just as RINO / Lib as Rudy G. One month before leaving office Mitt made it a policy the MA SP could arrest illegals. Why did he wait until then?

Try to be a little fair if possible - Rudy did more than just make a stump speech on September 11th. More more.

remember that a true conservative could NEVER be elected as Governor of the peoples republik of Massachusetts.

Do you mean like how Reagan could "never" be elected Governor of liberal California??

C'mon. No one is under the delusion that Romney is a conservative's conservative, but give the man a chance.

I'd rather have a leader who 'sees the light' and trends conservative than a false conservative who constantly serves up liberal gobbly-gook just to appeases the masses.

Yes it's early. But from what I've seen, Romney is the one person so far who seemingly could pull off a threading-the-needle type of victory.

If he would somehow take a pledge (or something) to appoint pro-life judges, or to never approve anmesty, or something along those lines,.... I could find myself supporting him.

After all, if he were to push Mass, and parts of New England and/or Pennsylvania to the GOP, then it would certainly be a looooong night for the Demo-wimps in Nov. 2008.

Santorum is too close to his last defeat.

I dont necessarily buy that 'common knowledge' line about Santorum being unelectable.

Nixon lost in 1960, and then again for Calif Gov. in ?? 64' or '66.

In today's 24-hour blanket cable TV-radio coverage, in this Internet age, many of the old political adages must be thrown out and re-assessed.

I think Santorum, with a good message, has the youth, the desire, and yes the charisma to attract many a cross-over voter, as long as he connects with the right political segments and stays away from all-morality-all-the-time.

Dont get me wrong. I am an ardent believer in moral (conservative social) issues first, and all will follow.

But conservatives must also find a way to bridge the gap between those who understand a strong society, and those whom they are trying to recruit INTO that strong moral society.

Mayor Linguine is a hack politician who became a millionaire as soon as he left office.

If you want to criticize Rudy, fine.

He aint my cup of tea, either.

But please dont fall into the old class envy trap --- "He became a millionaire as soon as he left office."

What would you have him do? Stay poor and destitute just to please the blue collar crowd who hates anyone who earns a buck.

In reality, ALL politicians become millionaires (NEWT included, Reagan included) as soon as they leave office, precisely because they are able to pull in large fees for speaking engagements.

And also because they are able to generate HUGE amounts in fundraising .... and not just political fundraising either.

Many earn huge amounts speaking at annual conventions of the .... the American Red Cross, or the US Chamber of Commerce.

Making money is as American as NFL football and Yankee baseball. Please dont fall into the libo-Dem weenie trap of hating people who get rich via the American dream.
