Why did Hillary's pet attack dog Howard Wolfson attack Barack Obama? Was it:

(a) Bill's anger at having his presidential record scrutinized (b) A concentrated effort to lure Obama into a mud fight (c) A desire to move attention away from her refusal to apologize for backing the Iraq War

Now the answer emerges. It was:

(d) Because Barack Obama is surging in the polls.

The Washington Post reports that Obama has gone from an anemic 17 percent of the vote among Democratic primary electorate to a more robust 24 percent, while the former First Lady dropped from 41 percent to 36 percent. (Edwards, going no place fast, was mired at 14 percent in third place). So the Post has Hillary's lead cut in half from 24 percent to 12 percent.

Pollster John Zogby finds a similar trend in a February 22-24 poll with Obama surging from 14 percent to 25 percent in two weeks during which time he has Hillary gaining only 4 points from 29 percent to 33 percent. Again, Edwards runs third at 12 percent.

When you are dropping in the polls, what do you do?

(a) You attack your opponent

Or

(b) If you have a reputation for slash and burn politics like Hillary, you accuse him of attacking you

Must say I'm surprised Romney hasn't caught on at all.

No conservative even in the race anymore.

Been saying it's going to be HRC vs. Giuliani, and I still believe it. Hillary will either deliver a bombshell about Obama, or people will realize he's just another socialist. Hillary will crawl over the finish line, but while I used to believe she would win in the final, I'm no longer so sure. People really are sick of her.

Gingrich wouldn't win. Talk about a polarizing figure, he's nearly as inflamatory as Pat Buchanan.

And no, I'm not saying we shouldn't pick someone based only on "electability", but let's get real, he's a joke to many Americans, and his hypocrisy in attacking Bill while HE was nailing someone not his wife makes him unelectable.

Which is really too bad, I enjoy much of what he has to say, when he's not cozying up to Hillary.

In 2001, Barack Hussein Obama was a sponsor of Illinois Senate Bill 750 that created the "Halal Food Act," providing for inspections by the Department of Agriculture to ensure that all food labeled Halal is prepared according to Islamic law.

In other words, Obama was instrumental in amending the Illinois State Constitution to include elements of Shari'a law.

This is just the camel's nose under the tent. What if he has a chance to do the same to the U. S. Constitution. He'll do it, you know.

Every one in America will be sick of every candidate from both parties by Fall. I think we may see a second wave of announcements then. Gore, Gingrich, Fred Thompson, who knows who else. The idea of starting a campaign in January '07 is self-destructive and insane.

Soros strongly backed both Screaming Howard and Hanoi John.
Soros backing Obama makes me even more convinced Obama will lose. Soros backs on the degree of Bush hate, not on how likely it is someone is going to win.

You are correct about this campaigning starting too early. The way I see it...in 2012 cycle they'll probably start campaigning for 2016 in January of 2013, as soon as the President is sworn in.

Maybe it won't guarantee victory, but what else can account for Hanoi John getting -- what was it, 48% or so? I'm from MA, and when Kerry announced, I thought it was a joke! "Who would vote for Kerry?" I thought. Way too many people for comfort, it turned out.
