Can't post directly to News from this site, but figured y9ou Illini folks need to know:

WHEATON — DuPage County Republican Chairman Senator Kirk Dillard today announced that Congressman Duncan Hunter, ranking member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee and a candidate for President in 2008 will be a featured speaker at the Party’s 46th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner being held on Friday, March 2, 2007.

The purpose of the Party’s annual event is to remember Abraham Lincoln’s contributions to the United States, to celebrate the Party’s DuPage County electoral successes and to raise funds for election activities. In 2000 then Governor George W. Bush was the Party’s featured Lincoln Day speaker. The Party has also welcomed Senators Dole, Coleman and Kassebaum, Congressman Kemp, Kasich and Hutchinson, Steve Forbes, and former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson.

“I had the privilege of hearing Congressman Hunter speak at an event for Henry Hyde last year and his speech was one of the finest I’ve heard. He is a tremendous speaker,” Dillard said.

“I could not think of a more appropriate speaker to help us remember President Lincoln and celebrate the election of principled public officials like Congressman Peter Roskam,” added Addison Township Republican Chairman Pat Durante.

The 46th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner will take place at Drury Lane, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace, and will include a cocktail hour beginning at 6:00 pm and dinner at 7:00 pm. A limited number of tickets are still available for $150 per person. Half price tickets are also available to Republican precinct committeemen, Republican election judges, and active members of the DuPage Young Republicans. To obtain a ticket or additional event information contact Republican Headquarters at (630) 653-7200.

I hope it goes well. I'm not in the Hunter camp yet but want to see a strong voice for conservatism in the primaries.

From the OP: '“I had the privilege of hearing Congressman Hunter speak at an event for Henry Hyde last year and his speech was one of the finest I’ve heard. He is a tremendous speaker,” Dillard said."

If Hunter is a friend of Henry Hyde, he's a friend of TRUE conservatives.

Rompin' with the Rinos.

The pubs are almost extinct in Illinois, having OD'd from boredom from self-medicated "moderation." Maybe Duncan can light a fire under these me-tooers.

Yes, he can. As some here have said, they have not felt this enthusiastic for a candidate since RWR.

I'm not in the Hunter camp

I'll bet the more you read, the more you'll like! At least you are doing the homework! Most people are too lazy to do so. Good luck in deciding! May the best, not necessarily 'most electable", man win.

Anybody know if this event will be televised or broadcast in any way, shape, or form? I'd like to hear this man speak.

How many freepers are now on the Hunter ping list?

He has more supporters here at FR than Rudy!

I'm guessing C-Span may carry some of it. Contact the organizers, they should know.

We'll see. One thing that's put me off of Hunter thus far is the rudeness of many of his supporters here on FR. Shouldn't matter, logically, but none of us is a machine.

I appreciate your concern, but (1) this thread isn't really the place for me to post a whiney list, and (2) I don't believe it's exactly a secret that a handful of familiar names in the Hunter camp meet my description.

I'm confident there are rude folks all over, mind you, I just seem to have had the fortune of "meeting" several in Hunter's corner.

I am supporting Hunter because he has is a strong voice for conservatism.

In recent elections the democrats have owned California.

However, I think that Hunter could make the race very interesting.

If Hunter could carry California, he wouldn't need Florida, Ohio or Pennsylvania to win the presidency.

If nothing else it would be terrific to see the dems spending big bucks defending California.

Excellent. And Hunter does have a great way of communicating. They chose the right Republican to do the honor.

Keep your eye out for CPAC on C-SPAN coming up this or next week. Hunter is supposed to be one of the speakers. I'll let you know if I find any info on if they'll show him and when.

I attended the DuPage County Annual Lincoln Day Dinner this past Friday.

I attended specifically to hear Duncan Hunter.

Here are my thoughts:

If you heard his speech at CPAC, Hunter gave basically the same speech he gave at CPAC. I left with a very favorable impression of Hunter. It was a good speach and he's a good speaker.

Here are my concerns: The other people at my table didn't know him at all.

The "applause lines" basically came and went. Maybe it was the nature of the event; I understand it was not a Duncan Hunter pep rally but an annual dinner. More of a concern for me, is the sad state of the RINO Republican Party in Illinois. The applause was polite, at best. Many of the people on the dais sat on their hands during Hunter's speech.

So for me, a great evening was tempered by what I feel will be the Illinois Republican Party ordering more of the same. So expect them to line up behind Giuliani.
