U.N. data show U.S. greener than EU
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | February 23, 2007 | By Jennifer Harper

Finger-pointing critics often vilify Americans as the sole cause of global warming. But the typical image of SUV-driving, energy-hogging Yankees may be bogus -- a new analysis of U.N. data reveals that U.S. efforts to reduce greenhouse gases actually beat European policies.

"Despite constant criticism from environmental activists at home and across Europe claiming the U.S. government is doing nothing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, new evidence suggests America's efforts are more effective than those of Europe's," according to a study by H. Sterling Burnett of the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research institute.

The United States has spent more than any other country on research and technologies to reduce emissions, Mr. Burnett wrote, and the business-led efforts are paying off. "The U.S. is doing a far better job reining in its emissions than Europe, even though it has a faster-growing economy and population," Mr. Burnett said.

EUers also accuse the US of unilateral actions. Should we feel guilt for that? Even if we should, we don't, but the EU easily has ten times the unilateral actions.

The United States has spent more than any other country on research and technologies to reduce emissions

And I believe Bush also has a longstanding program to share such technologies at low cost or no cost with developing nations, so we're also doing more to reduce emissions in non-Kyoto countries like India and China were some of the biggest present problems, and certainly the greatest future problems, lay.

Of course the BIDS ridden "environmentalist" movement doesn't care, and most probably don't even know, about these facts. But then this movement is all but entirely ideological anyway. It hasn't been about facts, or about the environment for that matter, for decades.

Of course. We've been mandating improvements in air quality since the 1970's. Europe has been lagging behind us for that entire period. To say nothing of the failure of socialist paradises like Russia and China to improve their air quality. Nonetheless, we are expected to bear the costs of improving air quality ourselves. How convenient for those other countries who cannot or will not spend money themselves to improve air quality.

Don't know why, but this reminds me of a long-standing argument I had with my wife.

For the first year or so of our marriage, she was constantly accusing me of messing up the bathroom sink, and leaving the area thrashed.

Then, we built a house with separate, his-and-her bathroom sinks.

Lot less arguing going on now-- and my side of the room is always spotless. Very enlightening.

O.K. Looking to the full article, the reporter actually mentioned this:

"U.S. businesses are succeeding where European bureaucracy is failing," Mr. Burnett said. "Further, efforts like the Asian-Pacific partnership will do far more than [the] Kyoto [Protocol] to have a lasting effect on greenhouse gas emissions."

The Asian-Pacific partnership is a nonbinding plan to cooperate on development and transfer technologies that would enable greenhouse gas reductions.

That depends on what part of Europe you are thinking of. Germany, Scandanavia, and Russia all have huge forested areas. Italy, France, Britain, Poland, former Yugoslavia, not so much. Ukraine, Hungary, Greece, Spain, Romania (except Transylvania), and Portugal were never particularly wooded (like our great plains or prarie).

Gee, sounds like my wife! Of course, when we bought the house with the "his and hers" bathroom sinks, guess whose side was always a mess, with hair, etc?

This is the problem that the Eviros have with the US our efforts are not done by direct government mandate.

Ever notice that National Security concers are never brought up by leftists when they start talking about alternative fuels?

Environmentalism is a pastime for wealthy nations. Poor nations have to us all their treasure to survive. If Kyoto actually took effect it would suck the surplus treasure from wealthy nations and throw it into the bottomless pit of the third world. Wealth nations will have less money to spend on the luxury of environmentalism and the technology that will create greener industry. As always, liberalism will generate the exact opposite of its stated intent.

Hey euroweenies, look what I did. I did it without consulting Al Gore, the UN or the EU. Even worse I did it without any permits or fees.

Next on my agenda I will replant what I please, where I please, when I please and without anyones permission.

The end result will be that I will have far more sucess at protecting the environment than any carbon share, fee, or permission slip can ever do.
