I cannot support Rudy anymore. I urge other Rudy supporters to do the same.

EEE, we've crossed swords before, but I've always respected you as a thougthful and spirited poster. If you're serious about this, I respect you even more now.

It takes a big man to admit he was wrong, hoping that his candidate really did agree with him. I think we'll see more people jumping off the Rudy bandwagon on this issue. He really is exactly what he always said he was. And that is a social liberal, exactly the same as the Dims are.

You've been having reservations about supporting Rudy for some time. You've made the right decision, EEE. Congrats!

I'd like to see it ended, but ultimately I believe that a woman has the right to choose.

Self contradiction? self deception? or just plain deception? Not to bad mouth America's Mayor, but how would he like to see abortion ended? It is worse than meaningless to say that he'd like to see it ended. He should just shut-up about it because I want to continue liking Rudy Giuliani but I will always hate abortion.

I consider myself to be a moderate on the gun issue. That is, I believe gun ownership is optional. It is not mandatory.

Well Rudy is slightly to the right of the old CCCP as they allowed hunters to have guns but smooth bores only!

Thanks guys. It was a tough decision because I've always advocated that fiscal and national security conservatism was more important than the social issues. But Rudy is openly pro-abortion here and his statement contradicts what he said in the past. So how can we trust him overall the other issues then?

Count me out as a Rudy supporter. He flat out lied - Years ago he said he'd pay to have his daughter to get an abortion.

Did he? In 1989, he told Phil Donahue the exact same thing he said today, that he would advise his daughter not to have an abortion.

I do that in spite of my own personal reservations. I have a daughter now; if a close relative or a daughter were pregnant, I would give my personal advice, my religious and moral views ...

DONAHUE: Which would be to continue the pregnancy.

GIULIANI: Which would be that I would help her with taking care of the baby. But if the ultimate choice of the woman - my daughter or any other woman - would be that in this particular circumstance [if she had] to have an abortion, I'd support that. I'd give my daughter the money for it.

But I respect your choice. I see that you care strongly about this issue.

I agree! It makes it harder to do a search that way.

"Right to Abortion"..? RUDY 2008 SUPPORTERS: This doesn't Jive with his assertion that "Strict Constructionists/originalists in the likes of John Roberts or Alito" will be nominated to the Courts..~! Riddle me this how can their be a "right to abortion"~not mentioned in the Constitution EXPLICITLY, when you SAY you support judges that don't hold this VIEW?

IS SOMEONE LYING.

Um I hate to say this but you weren't exactly a die-hard Rudy supporter But we Rudy Supporters don't intend to change at this point.

What did it for me with Giuliani is his support of global warming and his refusal to at least modify his abortion and gun control stands. He could have just told Hannity that taxpayers shouldn't fund abortions and the ruling should be overturned and settled by the states. With gun control he should have clearly stated that the 2nd Amendment is for self-defense instead of hunting and what happened in NYC isn't going to happen nationally. Sadly, he didn't, so I'll look elsewhere in the primaries. I'll support Rudy in the general if he wins though.

"I'd advise my daughter or anyone else not to have an abortion," Giuliani said. "I'd like to see it ended, but ultimately I believe that a woman has the right to choose. It's certainly saved me a lot of child support over the years".

Nonsense. The right to choose is supported by a substantial majority of voters because it is right and it is fair and even though it is sad.

When are you guys ever going to learn that people don't like to be told what they can and can not do?

Whatever happened to the conservative mantra that government should stay out of your affairs...and now you want the government to outlaw a woman's right to choose?

If you do not see the dichotomy there then you just need to talk to someone outside of your lodge.
