The Russian "Coup" Was A Hoax
The Modern History Project ^ | 1994 | David Rivera

Posted on 02/18/2007 11:08:59 AM PST by Fennie

It is the belief of Donald McAlvany, who publishes the McAlvany Intelligence Advisor, that the coup was a hoax. Only a minimal number of troops participated in the coup, the internal or international lines of communication were not cut, the press was not controlled, and the airports were not closed. A very strange "coup" indeed.

The Soviet "Coup" of 1991 On August 19, 1991, a report from Russia indicated that Mikhail Gorbachev had become ill, and the Vice-President had taken over the country, imposing a state of emergency. In reality, the military, the KGB, and communist hardliners had initiated a coup to take over the government. Or at least that is what they wanted us to think.

It is the belief of Donald S. McAlvany, who publishes the McAlvany Intelligence Advisor...

See link above.

IIRC, Chicken coups only have two doors. Otherwise, they'd be called Chicken sedans.

Conceivably, a failed coup could have had a different objective than what was given out to the public, but that's different from saying that it was part of some sort of master plan.

Whatever its original objective and whatever the sincerity of the plotters, the coup and its failure did change things in Russia.

In 1981, Anatoly Golitsyn, a former major in the KGB who defected to the West, wrote a book called New Lies For Old: The Communist Strategy of Deception and Disinformation, which was published in 1984. He outlined virtually everything that [has since] taken place in Russia, such as the tearing down of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of East and West Germany; the partial relinquishing of their control of Eastern Europe; and the declaration that "communism is dead".

He wrote that their plan was to deceive the West into believing that the Soviet Union was falling apart, their satellites splintering, and its economy in shambles. The facade of weakness and instability would be part of a massive deception staged by the Kremlin to extort aid from the West, and to get the United States to withdraw troops out of Western Europe.

Since the coup, most of the former Warsaw Pact countries have joined NATO, as have Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, which were actually part of the Soviet Union. In addition, the US now has air bases in former Soviet republics such as Kyrgyzstan and is negotiating with Poland to install ballistic missile defense systems. How do these developments fit into Golitsyn's consiracy theory?

Funny the two weeks worth I watched, with dead people in the foreground, did not look like a hoax. I guess they staged the gunfire, tanks and killing as well?

He didn't say it was a good plan

Please explain. Are you referring to Anatoliy Golitsyn?

BTW, I am the controller of the Russia/Soviet/Coldwar2 Ping List. I need more information before I ping them to this.

Russia was sick of babysitting the Warsaw Pact, and feared that if a war really started, those countries would back stab Russia.

How do these developments fit into Golitsyn's consiracy theory?

First, the Golitsyn leak of their plan undoubtedly forced its alteration...just as it altered our response to their attempted deception. Were you aware that we continue to find illegal, unreported stashes of nuclear missiles in Eastern Europe? If they had actually fallen...they would have come clean. The events post 2000 also show that Donald Rumsfeld, at least, was taking the resurrection of the Old Soviet Bear very seriously. Far more so than Colin Powell or Condileeza Rice, I am afraid. And the Soviet Union had been her area of "expertise." And certainly more so than GW himself, who often defers to her. But Bush has proven to be even more gullible than she...he thought from his first meeting with "Pooty-Poot"...that he could see into his soul, and "this was someone we could do business with."

Sigh.

Meanwhile, he has continued as if all is well, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Unilateral disarmament of our land and bomber legs of the tria...(MX dismantlement, B-1B decommissioning and denuclearized) our extremely low alert posture (Operation Looking Glass with mere fitful training missions only), and deliberate brakes on the NMD, so that it is not a National Missile Defense at all, that leaves us significantly vulnerable to attacks...especially from unexpected directions and actors.

China has exploited this in tandem with Russia. Hence the arming of Iran...Cuba and Venezuela... which should be most recent and salient in the minds of all. But before that, it was Iraq, and before that it was North Korea, and Pakistan, and Libya. Libya has...watching Iran's continued intransigence carried out with impunity... since repented of caving to administration threats over its nuclear armaments program.

Clearly, the design of the two communist powers (the Chicoms and the "Russians") are to have a devastating direct nuclear/EMP attack on the US homeland by one of their surrogates.

Then they will be free to move as they wish. Perhaps to "help" the U.S. recover and reconstitute a government here...and put their own people...Quislings...(can anyone say Xlinton?) in control.
