..I'm sure the major polling people (Zogby, Gallup etc) would have it--probably wouldn't be free though...

'92 was a perfect storm for Clinton--GHWB abandoning his base, Ross Perot's demagoguery, even Clinton's personal drama appealed to many people's prurient interest, which kept him in the news--the rest is history...

He used to be my Congressman, and I'm ashamed to say I voted for him now.
Of course, now we have Chet Edwards, a Democrat liar of the first order, who bleeds red, white, and blue as he campaigns around Waco and Ft. Hood....and who voted with Benedict Murtha and Tokyo Rose Pelosi yesterday, like the good little liberal Dem lap dog he is. This part of Texas should be a lot smarter when Edwards runs again next year, spouting that same phony baloney about supporting our military. He supports it just like Barney Frank does.

If not, are the Hunter supporters chasing windmills?

No.

"Why should I not vote my conscience?"

Excellent. I stole that for my new tag line. Thanks!

Rudy and Mitt has even less chance

They sure do FReind, because if Rudy were to get the nomination, not only would I not show up to vote, I'd cut a check to Hillary in protest, the day after the Republican convention

To me, a lot of the Duncan supporters are beginning to sound exactly like the Buchanan horde did - which doesn't say much about him.

I don't get why people can't figure out that you don't win people over by being judgmental, condescending and rude.

I guess that means that I'm not a "true conservative".

Call me crazy, but I still think President G. H. W. Bush could've pulled it out, had he not called Bill Clinton "crazy" in the last week prior to the election. He was experiencing a late surge up to that point, and then phfft.

Oh, THAT will sure accomplish something.

Why don't you just buy a Cesar Chavez shirt, while you're at it, Mr. Proactive? Get some Birkenstocks, maybe a tweed blazer, grow out your hair, and wear some patchouli?

THAT will surely teach 'em.

(rolls eyes)

No Newt. No Mitt. No Rudy. No McCain. I don't want another anointing.

Hunter is a *SERIOUS* candidate. He's got a voting record, he's a real conservative and somehow can be taken seriously. I'm sorry but if we want lame candidates then we should gravitate to one of the media darlings rather than supporting someone who speaks to our issues.

With mass media it is now easier than at any point in human history to get to know the candidates. THERE IS NO EXCUSE for not taking Hunter seriously as a contender at this stage.

..without Lee Atwater, GHWB was handled by RINOs (I'll leave their names out) and got creamed--terribly run campaign...

Hunter is "OK" on conservative issues? How big of you. How are you rating Rudy? Do you like his leadership of dressing in drag for gay pride parades, on strengthening gun control, on supporting abortion on demand? Ugh. Newt is smart but both he and Rudy have personal morality issues--something I'd hoped we'd learned to avoid with Clinton. Newt badly bungled the show down with Clinton over closing the federal gov't.

This will not be a fun election. Hunter, a good man, good on the issues, won't get a fair hearing even at the earliest stages where you can shape the debate and ultimate nominee. The GOP will hand us another anointed one. We'll all blindly fall in line once he's the nominee because the Democrat will be a Marxist nut job.

Duncan Hunter is a respectable candidate. He has his own positives and his own negatives like all the other candidates who have formed exploratory committee.

At this point, I personaly like Hunter. I like some of the other candidates too. For now though it's best to sit back and not get to emotional about anyone. We need to encourage Newt, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Jim Gilmore, and anyone else who is of a more conservative stripe to get in the race.

I say this simply because it would be really bad for Duncan Hunter to get in a debate with a bunch of RINO's. In a 4-way debate with Rudy, McCain, Romney, and Hunter, Hunter gets marginalized and the RINO's win the battle of ideas.

In a debate with Rudy, McCain, Romney, Tancredo, Paul, Gilmore, Hunter, Gingrich, the conservative principle rules the day and the RINO's get marginalized.

We need to drive the RINO's out. They might as well be democRATS. If I wanted a damned democRAT to win I would vote for Hillary.

he's got serious name recognition and despite his many faults is clearly superior to the only other candidate in the field with similar name recognition (McCain).

His rhetoric aside, McCain has a very conservative voting record. Yes, he's too old and crazy but I can't see how Rudy is "clearly superior" to McCain. Rudy has some very bad judgment as revealed in his vouching for Bernard Kerrick for Homeland Security.

And that is reality. Hiding your head in the sand and thinking otherwise will not change it. The last 'real conservative', i.e. Ronald Maximus Reagan had a tremendous ability to connect to the voters, AND was a successful governor of the largest state in the Union. Ponder that... A 'real conservative' without those or similar credentials are going into a tremendous headwind. Ignoring reality will do ZERO!
