New York, Feb 13 -
In a sign of continuing momentum, the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee today announced Congressman David Dreier, Chairman of the California Republican Congressional Delegation and House Rules Committee Ranking Republican, has announced his support for Mayor Rudy Giuliani to be the next President of the United States. Dreiers endorsement follows the rousing reception Mayor Giuliani received at the California State Republican Convention and his successful swing through the state. Dreier will help lead Mayor Giulianis exploratory committee efforts in California.
Congressman Dreier said, America needs the proven leadership of Rudy Giuliani to tackle the difficult challenges our country is facing. Not only does Mayor Giuliani have a record of results, he has a positive, optimistic vision that can unite our Party and our country for the greater good.
I am proud to be supporting Mayor Rudy Giuliani for President and am looking forward to helping the exploratory committees efforts in any way I can, concluded Dreier.
Mayor Rudy Giuliani welcomed the support from Congressmen Dreier. Im excited to have a Republican leader like Congressman Dreier on our team. This endorsement comes on the heels of Congressman Pete Sessions and former Congresswoman Susan Molinari joining Team Rudy, as well as the previously announced support of California Congressman Devin Nunes and Congresswoman Mary Bono. More California endorsements will be announced later in the week.

Put Dreier on the turncoat list, and wait for snarky comments and rumors about Dreier.

The snarkiness and rumors about Dreier came out, so to speak, during the whole Mark Foley fiasco, so no need to preempt.
To: onyx
What rumors?
I thought it was a known fact.
To: PhiKapMom
Well, of course he would support Giuliani. They're both friends of Judy.

Nobody is "charging" that Drier is gay. I could care less, but it has been openly discussed on this forum in the past, as a quick search will demonstrate.

Will they be endorsing this too?
TUCHMAN: Giuliani was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions, something Bush strongly supports.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing. - CNN December 2, 1999
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BLITZER: If you were in the Senate and [President Clinton] vetoed, once again, the [ban on the] so-called partial-birth abortion procedure, you would vote against sustaining that against the -- in favor of the veto in other words, you would support the president on that.
GIULIANI: Yes. I said then that I support him, so I have no reason to change my mind about it.
BLITZER: All right. So the bottom line is that on a lot of these very sensitive issues whether on guns, abortion, patients' bill of rights, taxes, you are more in line with the president and by association, with Mrs. Clinton, than you are against them. - CNN February 6, 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[GEORGE] WILL: Is your support of partial birth abortion firm?
Mayor GIULIANI: All of my positions are firm. I have strong viewpoints. I express them. And I--I do not think that it makes sense to be changing your position.... ABC News February 6, 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MR. RUSSERT: A banning of late-term abortions, so-called partial-birth abortions--you're against that? MAYOR GIULIANI: I'm against it in New York, because in New York...
MR. RUSSERT: Well, if you were a senator, would you vote with the president or against the president? [Note: President Clinton was in office in 2000]
MAYOR GIULIANI: I would vote to preserve the option for women. I think that choice is a very difficult one. It's a very, very--it's one in which people of conscious have very, very different opinions. I think the better thing for America to do is to leave that choice to the woman, because it affects her probably more than anyone else....
MR. RUSSERT: So you won't change your view on late-term abortion in order to get the Conservative Party endorsement?
MAYOR GIULIANI: It isn't just that. We shouldn't limit this to one issue. I'm generally not going to change my views - NBC Meet the Press, February 6, 2000
***Note: the version of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban that Giuliani opposed in 2000, that he said he supported Bill Clinton in vetoing the Republican-controlled Congress's legislation, contained the provision for the life of the mother that Rudy is now trying to pretend is a prerequisite for his support of it.

Want to thank all of you! The more you post all of this, the more long time Freepers we get added to the ping list! Without all of your posting on the Rudy threads, not as many people would be reading them either.
Once again thanks!
FYI Rudy's only opposition to Partial Birth Abortion was any law that did not include the life of the mother but then why would I expect all of you to consider the life of the mother as important!

Perhaps you missed this:
***Note: the version of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban that Giuliani opposed in 2000, that he said he supported Bill Clinton in vetoing the Republican-controlled Congress's legislation, contained the provision for the life of the mother that Rudy is now trying to pretend is a prerequisite for his support of it.***
Sorry Mom, but no matter how you spin it, Rudy is still in favor of near-birth infanticide.
Want some more proof? No problem:
"See, I don't equate abortion with murdering a child, which I guess puts me in conflict with the teaching of the Catholic church. Catholics in public office often make the mistake, a subtle but important one, of saying they agree with the teaching of the church, but because I'm in public office, I have to put conscience aside and enforce the law. They haven't thought out the implication of what they're saying. If you agree with the church, there's no difference between murdering a one year old and eliminating a fetus -- it's the same act. There is a moral consequence to the elimination of the fetus, but it's not the same thing as murder"

He most likely is gay. Aside from the usual left-wing rags the issue has been discussed in
L.A. Weekly and in his Wikipedia entry.
A quick Google search on David Dreier + gay will yield 160,000 results including innumerable lefty blogs like DU, Daily Kos, and Wonkette. It's unlikely that mainstream or Republican friendly publications would publish unconfirmed rumors. Have you ever seen Michael Jackson referred to as a pedophile in a newspaper or magazine?
As I said, this is not news to FR, you can easily find threads where his rumored proclivities were openly discussed dating back years.

I am at a loss to explain why conservatives wish to silence all other voices.
I have repeatedly stated that we should celebrate a full field of candidates, let the debates commence and the voters decide.
If Mayor Rudy is the devil incarnate, then he will get scant few votes...lol.

I'm not one for single issue litmus tests but "partial birth abortion" is a clear example of where there is no slack. No one that supports this procedure will win the RNC nomination. So this is a case where's Rudy's tin ear and not caring what others think will cost him dearly.
To: Corin Stormhands; PhiKapMom; areafiftyone

Isn't an open secret that Dreier is gay--hence his support for Giuilian and his pseudo-conservatism.
Dreier voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment and the Flag Desecration Act.
Euan Blair, the son of Prime Minister Tony Blair, interned in his office.
Not exactly the kind of company, a conservative keeps.

I see 24/7 slashing, bashing and posting of SPAM.
I am a neutral party at this juncture, but I've seen it all before in '99/00 when GWB was deemed unsuitable for the nomination and Keyes, Buchanan, Forbes and Bauer were the saviors.
