New York Town May Have Hit Snow Record(12FT! & Al Gore is no where to be heard from. LOL)
breitbart.com ^ | WILLIAM KATES

Posted on 02/12/2007 4:26:13 PM PST by kellynla

The snow just won't stop. Intense lake-effect snow squalls that buried communities along eastern Lake Ontario for nine straight days diminished Sunday _ then started up again early Monday. Unofficially, the squalls have dumped 12 feet, 2 inches of snow at Redfield. If accurate, that would break the state record of 10 feet, 7 inches of snow that fell in nearby Montague over seven days ending Jan. 1, 2002, said Steve McLaughlin, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

A weather service representative was being sent to Redfield on Monday to verify the total.

Residents of this hardy upstate New York village seem unfazed. Redfield, whose economy thrives on snowmobilers and cross-country skiers, receives an annual average of 270 inches _ more than 22 feet.

"It's snow. We get a lot of it. So what?" said Allan Babcock, a lifelong resident who owns Shar's Country Diner, a popular eatery in this village of 650 people.

However, Gov. Eliot Spitzer has declared a state disaster emergency in Oswego County. The county's community of Parish had recorded 115 inches by early Sunday. Mexico had 103 inches, North Osceola had 99 and Scriba 94. The city of Oswego had 85 inches.

The persistent snow bands that have wracked the county for a week were expected to finally end later Monday.

"We have a sharp front coming in Monday that's going to kick all this out. We may get one more burst of snow. But then it's over. Finally, some mercy," McLaughlin said.

However, the forecaster noted that a coastal winter storm expected midweek could bring another 6 to 12 inches to areas of upstate New York.

As the bands shifted north into Jefferson County most of Sunday, residents continued recovering from the heavy snow. Roads were mostly cleared as workers turned their attention to removing the snow and trimming down 10- and 12-foot-high snow banks that continued to make driving dangerous.

The snow led to surreal scenes. One house appeared to be in a cocoon. Drifting snow in the front had swallowed the front door and blocked the windows.

"In all my life, I mean my entire life combined, I've never seen this much snow at once," said Jim Bevridge, 47, of Timmonium, Md., who drove up for a long weekend of snowmobiling.

It's kind of funny to me that while we in Colorado were being buried in snow for six straight weeks, I kept reading this global warming nonsense from the New Yorkers because it happened to be warm there. Well, it's warm here now. Suffer!

There is, of course, a good reason why global warming caused all this snow.

(and when they think of a really good lie, they will let us know...)

Not like it will matter pointing this out again but in many parts of the world more snow than normal does not equal it being colder than normal.

Anchorage, Alaska, has had FAR more snow than normal this winter while their temperatures have been ABOVE normal this winter.

Why, where ever you go... there you are!!

That is the perfect line of crapology that could be adopted by the manbearpig searchers out there. It's so much warmer that it has created SO much more water vapor that it is making a deluge of SNOW! Why, the entire north east will be buried in man made WATER VAPOR SNOW.

OMG, the sky is literally FALLING!!

Run for your life!!

Here in Arizona (we're in the Phoenix area) we had a VERY cold few weeks in January, with freezes that destroyed our yards and crops...Just like California had at that same time. "Climate changes" covers it all now it seems. And...WE did it!! (of course, such arrogance)

(and when they think of a really good lie, they will let us know...)

The reason is, according to the global warming crowd, is because it is so warm that Lake Ontario didn't freeze like a hockey rink and thus more water evaported and turned into snow when it got to land.

My question is, what % of Lake Ontario normally freezes? I lived in Buffalo for 5 years and never really noticed it being a big sheet of ice. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

"There is, of course, a good reason why global warming caused all this snow."

Actually already been stated: the Great Lakes have not frozen yet, so 'lake effect snow' is occurring at record levels.

I grew up in Oswego. Ontario never froze over completely, but it often froze a fair way out. Every few years or so, some idiot would try taking a snowmobile out there and go through the ice -- or a deer would get stranded and people would try to save it.

Lake Ontario has frozen over on two recorded occasions. The first came during the winter of 1874-75. The second came during the winter of 1934.

"Meteorologists think that they can forecast the short-term results of the return to the norm of the last century. They begin by noting the slight drop in overall temperature that produces large numbers of pressure centers in the upper atmosphere. These break up the smooth flow of westerly winds over temperate areas. The stagnant air produced in this way causes an increase in extremes of local weather such as droughts, floods, extended dry spells, long freezes, delayed monsoons and even local temperature increases – all of which have a direct impact on food supplies."

Same playbook, different page.

Only frozen over twice huh? But, they were both EXACTLY 60 years apart, so it SHOULD have frozen again in 1994! But it DIDN'T!!!! Just another PROOF that there IS Global Warming and we're all going to die!!!!!!

If only Bush had signed that treaty..

Little known, and never mentioned in the media about Kyoto is a little fact that bears repeating. The US Did sign Kyoto. Infact, ALGORE! signed it for us!

Then the US Senate promptly voted 95-0 AGAINST ever ratifying the treaty. Someone with far better research skills than I should check and see which democrat senators who are still in the senate voted NO on Kyoto.

Here in Illinois they just dig through and get leftover corn and acorns. They also will eat bark and pine needles. Even in the hardest winters here they seem to be nice and healthy, so they're getting by some how. Although they don't hibernate as such they find comfortable places to hole up (in the pine needles at my place) sleep a lot and don't expend much energy.

Yeah but in 12 feet of snow? A deer's belly is not much more than 24-30 inches above ground.

The snow coverage is never going to be even, there will always be a few open areas. You've got a point, tho, I've never seen it anywhere near that deep here.

If you notice periods of depression that seem to accompany seasonal changes during the year, you may suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This condition is characterized by recurrent episodes of depression – usually in late fall and winter – alternating with periods of normal or high mood the rest of the year.

Most people with SAD are women whose illness typically begins in their twenties, although men also report SAD of similar severity and have increasingly sought treatment. SAD can also occur in children and adolescents, in which case the syndrome is first suspected by parents and teachers. Many people with SAD report at least one close relative with a psychiatric condition, most frequently a severe depressive disorder (55 percent) or alcohol abuse (34 percent).

Symptoms of winter SAD usually begin in October or November and subside in March or April. Some patients begin to slump as early as August, while others remain well until January. Regardless of the time of onset, most patients don’t feel fully back to normal until early May. Depressions are usually mild to moderate, but they can be severe. Very few patients with SAD have required hospitalization, and even fewer have been treated with electroconvulsive therapy.

It's not whether or not the lake is frozen. It's the temperature of the water, which right now is warmer than usual for this time of the year. Then cold, dry air moves over it. This is NOT a defense of global warming proponents, this is just basic climatology 101.
