But given even the Democrats in Congress's reluctance to go after ANY gun issues in recent years

There have been 4 separate anti-gun bills introduced since the beginning of this current congress.

Anyone with a brain and a heart who can see the new technology would be against PBA. Democrat Daniel Moynihan called PBA infantile genocide, but that was before his party moved left.

That's the point, Giuliani opposed the ban on PBA during the 2000 Senate race. Moynihan, a classic liberal Democrat, was able to see it for what it is, infanticide, but Rudy continued to support it and stated he would vote against the ban if elected.

The conservative credentials of R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. cannot be questioned by anyone who has been paying attention for the last twenty years. It is telling that he is so high on Rudy. I don't think most of us who are open to Rudy's candidacy are rooting for social conservatives to be expunged from the GOP. On the contrary, I am a social conservative myself which is why I know that losing in 2008 is not an option. If the GOP is going to reverse the disastrous landslide of 2006 we need some charisma at the top of the ticket. While social issues are dear to my heart my politics is not one dimensional. 2008 is about three things to me. We must elect: 1) someone who understands that we are in a struggle for the survival of western civilization and will vigorously defend it. 2) Someone who understands that our children's future depends on a vibrant globally competitive economy, and who knows that high taxes and protectionism won't give us that. 3) Someone who will fight against moral relativism and decay and will appoint constructionist judges. Rudy is solid on one and two and has promised to deliver on number three. Rudy and Mitt will change the entire electoral map. We will once again be able to compete for Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and California. If he puts an innovative southernor like Mark Sanford on the ticket it'll be a landslide.

Very well stated. It always bugs me when the media right or left tells me who I should support. I figure most of us can think for ourselves.

Pennsylvania? You're kidding me, right?

The crossovers in PA come largely from pro-life Dems. You won't get that from a pro-choice pubbie nominee.

And I imagine that is the case to a lesser extent in Ohio and Michigan as well.

I was born and raised in NYCity. In the heart of Brooklyn. Never went in for that celebrity stuff. Denouncing Sharpton is no big deal. It doesn't make Rudy presidential material.

What I posted in #140 destroys Rudy`s credibility as a fiscal conservative. Rudy may have acted fiscally responsible by NYCity standards. Outside of the ultra liberal Big Apple, and other major liberal enclaves around the country, I doubt Rudy is viewed as a hero of any kind. Especially when his lifelong support for liberal causes is revealed. As more light is shined on Rudy record, and he's exposed for his liberalism, conservatives will not like what they see.

So you think those pro-life Dems will flock to Hillary? What about all the suburban voters who abandoned us the last time. Rudy will go over great with them, not to mention the large Italian American community in Philly.

If neither candidate is pro-life, why should they leave the Dem Party?

Your looking through the prism of abortion only....really how many anti-abortion dims are there?

Against Hillary?....I think Rudy has a good chance of keeping all the red states and taking some purple ones. NJ...FLA...PA...CA.

You are definitely right about that, as you are about other Pubbies' stances on guns, like President GHWB.

I guess what I would really like is for Rudy to be sincere about his changing stances, and that he goes on to win, as he has a lot of positives.

Hunter stands little chance, I suspect, and Mitt seems to be pandering, and Newt, while the best conservative out there, doesn't seem to want it enough...

I really liked Rudy when he was mayor. The subways got clenaed up, we felt safe to walk the streets at night, and he got rid of the mob...BUT if he is just parroting those things, and hasn't really changed, I don't think I would vote for him.

He treated Donna Hanover, hos first wife, shabbily, by the way...I really dislike what he did to her.

Ed

Ask Rick Santorum. He counted on their votes to win his Senate seat twice - and then got his clock cleaned when the Dems ran a pro-life candidate who was the son of the last great pro-life Dem, Governor Bob Casey Sr.

No red flags when a Republican is a viable in the most left wing states in the country? That has to say something is wrong, not right about the Candidate.

Ahhh, I understand!

What do you think this primary term will entail?

Do you think Hunter will show any strength at all, or Newt will get some fire under him?

Or will Rudy convince enough conservatives that he will moderate his past liberal views?

Ed
