Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Austr alia is not for you", he said on National Television. "I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia: one the Australian law and another Islamic law that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option", Costello said. Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off. Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who don't want, to live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can basically clear off", he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It." "We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society .. Learn the language!"

BRAVO!
Excellent post!!! Thx.
I guess if it gets bad enough here after the Democrats force our defeat in Iraq, we can always move to Australia.
"ISLAM IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION."
Our political leaders need to learn how to develop a backbone like the Aussies.

Welcome! Leave your customs at the door
Quebec town posts cultural code
Wow!!!!! Excellent!!!
Boy those Aussies are good. Talk about calling them as they see them! Hope they hang tough with this sort of attitude.
I've always debated moving to Australia.... its getting easier and easier to justify the move daily.
Outstanding! Wish our US politicians developed a spine to say the same thing.
Hope this more then just talk
The entire West needs to have this attitude. All cultures are not equal. Radical Islam represents stagnation, backwardness and death. Importing it to our civilization is literally suicidal.
GOD BLESS AUSTRALIA !!!!!!!!!
Seems to me that a lot of discussion goes on here as to whether the United States is a "secular" Government. If it is, then this is a feasible path for us. If it isn't, then this is a much more muddled direction.
WOW, a country that still has a pair!!!
I hear there's some good golf courses in Australia, crikey! What are the taxes there? Sounds like maybe a nice place to go when American descends into a third world country. I can get a dish and watch my NY sports team there too.
The problem is, if there were no America, Australia would not last long, nor would any other free country.
Well I don't think I agree with this, it would seem to me much better to give them a ride to the outback and tell them to walk home.
ping. Go Diggers!
They'd first have to repeal their gun bans.
WOW!! Twice recently, I've had people say they might move to Australia if the Hildabeast gets elected. It's looking mighty tempting.
scroll to the bottom, per snopes:
The individual statements attributed to Australian government officials included in the e-mail reproduced at the head of this page are thus essentially accurate, but the selectively-quoted excerpts of controversial material from different news stories create the misleading overall impression that Australia enacted a formal policy to force some Muslim groups out of the country. The statements quoted were part of the public debate over an issue that flared briefly in the immediate aftermath of the London Tube bombings, then quietly subsided.

So, it's essentially a collection of sundry quotes from varous people in the tense time after the bombings, neither official government pronouncement nor representative of current policy.
I just thought we should clarify that for the record here.
The Aussies have been standing up against the radical Islamics a lot lately.
Were it not for the gun laws and the high cost of private flying "down under", I'd seriously consider a move.
Oh to have an elected official in America who has the spine to be so clear!
Someone has backbone, but he will probably be the target of a series of threats by the proponents of the ideology of death and destruction.
Perhaps they should also be on the lookout for this little perfidity:

Hiding her identity, a woman takes refuge at a jail in northern Jordan. Women who were raped or had adulterous relationships are kept in jail to protect them from honor killing by their families.
I'm with you...but take water. Australia: The Last Frontier of Freedom.
Boy howdy do the Australians rock. Real men.
How is a self described "secular state" with the power to force out people of any given religion a "Frontier of Freedom". Sounds more on the totalitarianist side to me. Personally, I'm glad that the US guarantees freedom of religion.
This is great! I admire Howard more and more. And the Brits need to take a lesson from this. We do too.
Since this is from SNOPES, the famous urban legend website (motto: Rumor has it...), how sure are you that it is an authentic report?
Thinking about it .... but they have very restrictive gun laws.
Hey folks... good story but if one scrolls to the bottom of the "snopes" article you'll find that the article was updated in April of 2006. The post makes it seems as if the news if from 1/31/07. I know it's tough.
Of course, I agree with the notion all together.
Yes, but until we can have islam redefined as something other than a religion, it gives the muzzies a loophole they can drive an explosive-filled truck through.
How about the same mantra the Libs/MSM/DEMS say about Iraq, US out of Iraq now..... how about LIBS/MSM out of USA NOW ?
Yeah... at least they " GET IT " .
Aemobas don't have cartlidge much less bone for a spine.
What's a nice oceanfront home go for in Australia? Somewhere warm and sunny perhaps.
leilani: You're confused. Perhaps in 2005 the issue died down, but over the past 6 months it's very much in the news again in Australia. The clerics are only getting more brazen and the public knows about it.
Australia needs nukes and a big navy, and then it may be able to hold out. If the US elects Hillary and goes down the tubes, they will have to come up with something.
Fabulous! If the muzzies dont like it, Quantas is ready when the government is. Assimilate or get the hell out. Cant see anything wrong with that.
Well, I reiterated exactly word for word what was at the bottom of the link to snopes given as the source at the top of this thread: the email that was posted here today (& the quotes therein) are, word for word, from 2005 & the quotes here were taken verbatim from statements made in the days after the tube bombings. That's explained at the link to snopes given here - nothing confusing to me about that, & I just wanted to clear that up. Some people (incl you?) seem to think that these quotes are of more recent vintage, that's all. It's an old email.
Unfortunately, you are correct. Jellyfish have more courage than US politicians.
You should consider Tasmania, a fantastic place, great climate, and they have statues of their famous prostitutes in Hobart. I loved Hobart, almost refused to leave.
Thanks for the post. When are the politicians in this country going to realize that the Muslims over here don't want to live as Americans but practice their own religion on their own time. They want all of us to live under their rules.
