The problem is bureaucrats, second guessing troops in the field. If you hesitate in a fire fight, regardless of which way anyone is running, you can die. I have no sympathy for the enemy, especially drug running death merchants.

THere are 5 BP agents who were involved in this case. Three of them testified against the two who were convicted -- their stories matched, and matched the drug runner.
The 2 BP agents on the other hand contradicted each other on key points.
You can't choose sides on this one without second guessing troops in the field. The only question is which troops are you going to second-guess, the two convicted ones, or the three who were fired (along with the other 5 who were there later and would also have to be lying for Compean and Ramos to be telling the complete truth).

This well written piece somehow neglects to mention what is driving this entire controversy. That two Border Patrol agents, even if they are guilty which is likely, are being prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law for shooting a drug runner while at the same time politicians are doing back flips trying to grant amnesty to 15 million illegals. Yes they are guilty. Yes they deserve jail though 10 years is about 9 too many. But if you cant understand the outrage then youre blind.
