If it's the Iraqis making the claim of 300-350 then I'll reserve celebration until we make our count. 350 just sounds too good to be true.
But political and security sources said they were followers of Ahmed Hassani al-Yemeni and described him as an apocalyptic cult leader claiming to be the vanguard of the Mahdi -- a messiah-like figure in Islam whose coming heralds the start of perfect world justice. He had been operating from an office in Najaf until it was raided and closed down about 10 days ago.
CULTS
Similar violent cults have been a feature of Islamic history. They have declared temporal Muslim leaders illegitimate infidels and have drawn followers from both Sunni and Shi'ite believers, proclaiming a unity of inspiration from Mohammad.
An Najaf is a Shiite stronghold.
Bush gave permission for our guys to kill Iranians just a few days ago.

LMAO good one!
Haven't heard of them. I can only guess that it might be some Shiite group - perhaps an offshoot of the Mahdi Army.
Thanks, Allegra, yours are the posts I believe and always wait to see what you post to these threads.
To tell you the truth when I hear the names of these 'armies' I'm reminded of that scene from Ahnolds movie "True Lies" when Tom Arnold says "I guess the other terrorist organizations were just too cute and fuzzy for his taste."
In the same scene the young Lebanese actor, whose name escapes me right now, responds to Charlton Hestons question "Why did he chose that name?" with a pithy "Probably because it sounds scary."
Great flick that one.
You be careful over there.
Dulcie/Finbar '08.

Everything old is new again. A modern day version of old artillery cannister or grape shot, only with the whomph that comes from a 120mm cannon on an Abrahams Tank. Brilliant!!
BTTT
It'd be interesting to learn what country the dead terrorists are from, and then lay whats left of them, out in the sun, on hog hides with their passports, so reuters and al jazerra could photograph them and send the photo's to every muslim country as a warning to the other jihadi scumbags.
Great start - KEEP GOING!!!
After reading the story in my HOMETOWN newspaper, the Atlantic City Press, I was so angry that I has to write a letter to the editior:
Dear Sirs :
Please explain your rationale for printing in headline type , "2 Killed In Strike on U.S.Chopper" on the front page January 29,2007 . If you read the article it mentions at the end of paragraph three that about 250 insurgents ( terrorists ) had been killed in the battle . The actual number was 300 insurgents ( terrorists ) killed in the confrontation . That number of enemy killed in itself showed those American soldiers did not die in vain . The deaths of the American fighting men in a war is a tragic loss, but I believe the reason behind your headline is no more than a eye grabber to re-enforce the views the minority of Americans that want us to withdraw from Iraq BEFORE the job of returning the country to a civilized manner is done . If you are going to continue to convey the news in this way then at least put a scorecard on the front page which shows the number of American and insurgent (terrorist ) causalities daily, as was done in some papers during the Vietnam War era .
Kill them all because when the demonrats make us pull out of Iraq, those fanatics will be coming here.
Another busy day for them virgins.
What for? We only question the MSM when it's bad news. Or are unnamed Iraqi police and military sources not good enough for you?
Good news ping. Let's see if this gets covered on the evening news......yeah, right.
......This success must be due to Nancy Pelousy's visit to Baghdad.........
I'll bet she's really pissed because she wasn't briefed on the operation. The most important engagement in years was underway while she was there and she wasn't told.

It is interesting that a small, "heretical" group of fighters that hasn't apparently been causing trouble on the scale of the Madhi Army is being targeted with such vigor. One would think that the Madhi Army would be the first on the list. I don't know what these guys would be doing, other than being armed heretics, that would merit the attention of the Shia dominated government over real troublemakers like the Mahdi Army.
Oh, wait, did I answer my own question? If there's one thing theocracies don't like, it's religious competition.
The MSM is in there right now planting Mickey Mouse dolls and taking pictures of all the innocent members of an Iraq wedding party killed by American soldiers. Until they have it right they won't report it.
