Jimmy Carter has apologized for what he called a "stupid" passage in his book that critics say is a de facto endorsement of Palestinian violence against Israelis. The former president had spent most of the past two months defending his new book, "Palestine: Peace not Apartheid," after 15 board members at his Atlanta-based Carter Center resigned in protest of the book's content. "I apologize to you personally and to everyone here," Mr. Carter said when asked about the passage by a student during his appearance at Brandeis University on Tuesday. After explaining that the passage was "worded in a completely improper and stupid way," Mr. Carter said he has asked publisher Simon & Schuster Inc. to change the wording in future editions of the book.

Carter is full of crap. The heat on him hasn't gone away, despite the
LAMESTREAM MEDIA ignoring the issue...people who
think about the issues are holding him accountable.
Carter is a joke.
I'm ashamed I used to support him.

Carter is beyond belief. In many ways, he makes Clinton LOOK GOOD -- if such a paradigm could ever exist. Carter needs to be sent to a rest home in Havana -- there he can continue his anti-American crap and associate with the Communists he loves.
Totally repulsive.

IMHO, Rodney King and Carter are from 2 different worlds. Comparing the two is impossible. Carter as a former world leader bears a lot more responsibility for his deeds than King who was just continuing on his stupid ways that caused the stupid people to react like that.

A loud and boisterous "ME TOO" on behalf of my entire family. Jimmy Carter's interest rates killed my grandparents AND my parents ability to keep running their businesses and doing capital investment improvements. We are still literally paying the price.

Carter has sanctified his legacy in history which can described in one word, "Moron," and that is being very kind.

How long did it take for him to realize this after it was pointed out to him?

It just occurred to me that it's odd that people assume that this "books" was actually written by Jimmy Carter.
Most likely, Jimmy sketched a basic outline but farmed out the actual writing to some lefty ideologue. This would explain why when scandals like these surface, there's often such a disconnect and lack of responsibility exhibited on the "author's" part for the things that he "wrote". Carter is essentially saying "oops, I didn't mean to write that", which makes no sense if he did write it, but makes perfect sense if he didn't.
Which is not to say that in this case, Carter doesn't believe what is in the book; most likely he does. But if he had written it, he would have perhaps self-edited enough to make his vicious leftism more palatable.
The episode would serve as a pretty decent argument against viciously hateful ideologues using ghostwriters, if they want to preserve credibility. Carter had a somewhat successful political career gussying/phonying/hiding his beliefs for public consumption; he probably shouldn't entrust that task to anyone else anymore.
Just speculation, of course.

It's just a simple case of "botched" wording...

The questionable passage, which appears on Page 213 of the book, reads: "It is imperative that the general Arab community and all significant Palestinian groups make it clear that they will end the suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism when international laws and the ultimate goals of the Roadmap for Peace are accepted by Israel." Does any passage anywhere in his 288-page book about Paletinian-Israeli relations urge Palestinian and Arab groups to stop suicide bombing and terrorism unconditionally. Anywhere? If not, this apology is meaningless.

Does the book even acknowledge that even after the PLO / PA "officially" agredd to a two-state solution, Arafat's speeches in Arabic to his Palestinian constituents called for Israel's destruction? Does it once acknowledge that the current Hamas government still officially and unofficially state its objective as the elimination of the state of Israel?
If not, Little Jimmy is either too ignorant or too dishonest to even speak on the matter.

Now that you have admitted your stupidity, Mr. Carter, will you now leave the world stage?

Just speculation, of course. I think your speculation has some merit. If Carter really wrote this book, that means he wrote at least three or four drafts of the "questionable" language, an editor or team of editors read/analyzed/antagoinzed over it scores of times, and he (Carter) saw it again, in galley form, before the book was printed---to say nothing of the teams of lawyers who vetted the language. If that's the case, he's 100% responsible for every flippin' word in the book, and he should be surprised by exactly none of it.
To: Recovering_Democrat
The former president had spent most of the past two months defending his new book I guess he finally got around to reading it.

Carter is beyond belief. In many ways, he makes Clinton LOOK GOOD -- if such a paradigm could ever exist. Clinton was bad because he was self serving, but competent. Carter was self righteously incompetent. Of the two, Carter was definately the worst, because, to this day, he doesn't know how much damage he personally caused. He is personally responsible for the rise of radical Islamism. What he did in Iran midwifed the movement.

Laugh about it all you want, but if we had been smart enough to lock in 30-year bonds during his presidency, we'd all be able to retire quite comfortably.

I rather loved the 'apologizer' on Hannity and Colmes tonight.
What I got out of it was, basically, that Jimmah wrote the book 'cause people were 'dissin' him' so he wrote the book to get back at them.
Jimmah is claiming victim status.
