The birthrate among Hispanic women in the U.S. is twice as high as the rest of the American population – and an increasing number of Hispanic children are born to unmarried mothers.
Hispanic women now have the highest unmarried birthrate in the country – more than three times that of whites and Asians, and almost 1 1/2 times that of black women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
For every 1,000 unwed Hispanic women, 92 children were born in 2003, the latest year for which data are available. The rate for unmarried white women is 28 children per 1,000, for Asians it’s 22, and for black women, 66.
According to Heather Mac Donald, a senior fellow of the Manhattan Institute, 45 percent of all Hispanic births occur outside marriage, compared to 24 percent for whites.
And 51 percent of Hispanic women get pregnant at least once before age 20, compared with the national average of 35 percent for all teen girls, the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy reports.
Having a child out of wedlock, even for a teenager, is no longer a taboo in the Hispanic community, according to Mac Donald, who writes in the Dallas Morning News: "The most powerful Hispanic family value – the tight-knit extended family – facilitates unwed child rearing. Relatives often step in to make up for the absence of the baby’s father.”
But despite strong family support, unwed Hispanic mothers are coming to rely more and more on the welfare system. Hispanics now dominate the federal Women, Infants and Children free food program, with Hispanic enrollment soaring more than 25 percent from 1996 to 2002. Black enrollment fell 12 percent and white enrollment dipped 6.5 percent during the same period.
Illegal immigrants can get welfare for their U.S.-born children, and it has become "culturally O.K.” for Hispanics to take advantage of the welfare system, according to Amy Braun, who works for an Orange County, Calif., home for young single mothers who are in crisis.
One more distressing fact: According to the Wall Street Journal, there is a mountain of evidence indicating that children raised by non-college educated, economically struggling mothers are at an increased risk for virtually every social problem, including poverty, crime, drug use – and single parenthood.

The illegal aliens coming to the U.S. are hardly the cream of Mexican society. Many are the criminals and the uneducated; problem people the Mexican government wants to export to the U.S.

I don't like this one bit. It is outrageous that our own leaders are putting us in danger just to pursue their own agendas.
Is it still true that the welfare system discourages marriage? Don't single mothers get more benefits than married mothers? If so, I can see why the marriage rate has declined. It may not mean the father is nowhere to be seen, just doesn't have a marriage license. And why would they have a marriage license if they are illegal and to get one might expose their illegal status? And is this the logical outcome of a determination by U.S. powers-that-be to overlook the illegals' attitude of "rules are for other people, not me"? I have always believed that disrespect of laws is the greatest danger presented by the illegals: not terrorists, not diseases (though I won't minimize those), but the reaching of a critical mass of U.S. residents who have no respect for the rule of law. When that happens the Constitution will become meaningless and we will become a big Banana Republic, exactly the type of place these illegals fled in the first place.

The reason Hispanic women have kids out of wedlock and fail to get married is because the majority of them are on entitlements such as welfare, SSI, Medicaid and Food Stamps. They would lose these benefits if they got married.
Among whom - largely, unfortunately - adultery is a sign of machismo.
I fail to see what the problem is. They're just having illegitimate babies that Americans won't have.
Gee I wonder if this has anything to do with thousands and thousands of pregnant mexican illegals coming to California for free childbirthing and instant citizenship for their anchor babies. Many of them teenagers.

Illegals, by definition, are criminals. Mostly, they are unchurched, uneducated, and illiterate. They have to break family and community ties to come here. They've lived under Marxist oppression since before the USSR came into being. They distrust all social institutions, including "Gringo" churches, and see most Catholic churches as such. They are very, very different from the Mexican people of the old Southwest.

My gardener/landscaper in the desert, Luis, maybe around 25 years of age, said he is one of five siblings, and they each of have different mothers. But he seems a cheerful and well adjusted type, with a successful business, and does a good job for me. And so it goes.

Since Mexico lets all their "citizens abroad" vote in both countries' elections, I did a check of all the counties overwhemingly filled with "hispanic migrant voters" in the U.S. They voted overwhemingly for both John Kerry and "conservative" Felipe Calderon.

Women with children get welfare, free medical, food stamps, subsidized housing if the baby daddy isn't around and you know darn well that they will get it if he around some of the time
