"The people who can afford to keep a dog are probably also better able to take care of themselves. In fact, I'm pretty sure that if you did the research you'd find that the average dog owner is better off financially than the non-owner." I thought the same thing too when I read the article. Taking care of dogs correctly can be expensive.

So true! We just spent $$$$$ on our two beagles when they got into a bottle of motrin. They are worth it, though. Of things temporal, a good book and a good beagle won't let you down!

I am sitting on my couch using my laptop to read FR and next to me is my yellow lab, Icon. I feel pretty good.
Yes, I take a tweezer once in awhile to pull Ike hair out of the keyboard....

I am sitting on my couch using my laptop to read FR and next to me is my yellow lab, Icon. I feel pretty good. I have Myrtle, a 7 year old female. Smartest dog I ever had. And, two of her boys, Pistol and Wilbur, both 3.5 yrs. Mytle had a litter of 9 and I kept two. Best move I ever made. They are highly entertaining. They spend all day, everyday, on my farm. 2 ponds and a river to swim in. 70 acres of Lab paradise.....

That picture made me smile.
If I had a bigger house and more land I might get one.

A cat will DEMAND attention when it feels like it needs adored, and treat you like dirt the rest of the time.... A dog will crave attention anytime and be happy for it.
If you are going to spend your life with something, rather it be with something that is always happy to see you, than something that only is happy to see you when it fits their whims.

They are beautiful babies - if I knew how to post a picture, I'd post one of our babies. We have a Lhaasa Apso (sp?) and a rat terrier, both of which were strays. They are just like our kids - of course, I think we're getting a bit ditzy in our old age!

Having a dog is like having a full time motivational coach, your own Tony Robbins without the corny re-hashing of great books like Think and Grow Rich and How to Win Friends and influence People.
The dog is ALWAYS happy, always ready to perk your spirits up, never has a bad day, and loves and worships you like you're the greatest thing on earth, and you ARE, to him at least. They do reduce stress, create love in your heart and you can feel the happy endorphins and positive neuro transmitters firing in your brain.
If you don't have a dog, get one, love him and have this small investment returned 10 fold.
