Last night, the House passed a tax hike for the first time in 13 years. It was a bill that specifically sticks it to oil companies. As noted in the previous post, the final tally was 264-163, with 36 Republicans siding with the Democrats to vote YES, and 4 Democrats siding with the Republicans to vote NO.
Meanwhile, Dan Clifton at Americans for Tax Reform sent me the following list of congressmen who broke their pledge never to raise taxes by voting YES on the bill. Those in italics are Democrats.
Washington, Jan 17 - U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) affirmed his commitment to tax reform today by becoming an original cosponsor to the Tax Code Termination Act.
The legislation, to be offered by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), would abolish the Internal Revenue Code by the end of the decade and require Congress to approve a new tax system that year.
It is time we end the talk of reforming the tax code and get to actually doing something about it, Boozman said. It is time get serious about tax reform, force the issue in Congress, and give Americans a simpler way.
The current code is broken. It cannot be repaired. We must start fresh to lead to a fair result for all, Boozman continued.
There will be many debates, with many ideas, on how we fix the tax-code, Boozman added. Congress wont address this problem until we are forced to do so.
Lets set a deadline so we can get to work
They have to be nuts the tax will just be added to the price consumers have to pay. WHO DO THESE ASSES THINK THEY ARE FOOLING???????
perception, their alternate form of reality.
They don't see it as a 'direct' tax, therefore they can still say they haven't broken their pledge.
Do these clowns not realize that by taxing domestic oil production, it only makes us MORE, not less, dependent upon foreign oil?
They're hoping no one is paying attention.
it's all smoke and mirrors
Unfortunately, most people are so "stoopid" when it comes to economics that it will probably work.
"They're hoping no one is paying attention".
...I'm sorry. What was that? I was just watching Oprah working on a "Habitat" house. ~sarc. Seriously, mostly nobody is paying attention. That's the sad part.
They're probably fooling the asses who voted for them in the first place.
Are "they" still glad they didnt vote to teach "them" a lesson. Nancy,Obama and hillary sure are
They are just grabbing for money, as if 2.5 trillion is not enough. I just read a CATO book on health care, and they would find a lot more by tackling Medicare.
