Audio: Dem Congressman says it’s “likely” Rove planted the Rathergate memos
HotAir ^ | 1/17/07 | staff

Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) believes Karl Rove was behind CBS’s infamous Bush National Guard memos. Today on Sean Hannity’s radio show, Hinchey asserted that Rove “presented” the documents so that CBS would pick up the story. “There’s a significant amount of evidence,” he insisted, while conspicuously failing to provide any.

Two years ago Congressman Hinchey made a similar claim at a community forum in Ithaca, New York. A LGF reader was there and recorded what he said. Audio is available at Little Green Footballs.

The Dems have certainly lost touch with reality. Unfortunately, they have put us all in jeopardy. Our very survival is dependent on people who put ideology and power before the good of the country.

It can't be Rove. According to Dan Rather, the memos were genuine.

Another shameless lying Demagogue hack sounds off. If any of the Demagogues really truly believed such crap, they would have had private investigators and (probably) FBI agents crawling all over this matter for the past 2+ years. The fact that the Demagogues went totally silent about any matters of finding the "real forgers" ala OJ and his "real killers" is a good indication that Demagogues like Hinchey know they are completely full up of bull feces.

OK, now here is a surprise, THE GOP COULDN'T FIELD A CANDIDATE TO RUN! This is the same Maurice (oops that's my gun) Hinchey who on Nov 30 1998 at Christ Church in Binghamton NY said and I quote "Conservatives remind me of the German Youth of the 30's.") I was there.

When Laura I hit him with that same question, his response was essentially, "What liberal media?" He actually thinks that NPR has a rightward bias that needs corection!

People like Hinchey are insane, and malignantly so. Unfortuantely for us, they're in power now.

It's not the about the lack of evidence, it's about the seriousness of the charge.

This shows the lengths some liberals will go to in trying to restore the credibility of a media organization that is caught lying in its pursuit of bringing down a credible conservative.

If Rove actually did plant the docs, it doesn't make CBS's credibility look any better. They swallowed the whole thing, hook line and sinker and tried to force-feed it to their audience (back when they had an audience).

Even if this lunatic charge is true, the fact still remains that CBS ran with a story that they didn't bother to verify. They had a good, negative story on the President and ran with it, facts be damned. They threw journalistic ethics out the window.

I heard this idiot on Laura's show as well. When she pinned him on the hollywood issue, I was screaming at her to ask about michael moron's F 9/11 documentary.

I wish she would have asked if it would have been required by his law to counter that BS with the facts.

It's better than that. A liberal I know thinks that Dan Rather is great but was duped. Then I asked him "Why was the source anonymous?" To which the reply is "Because the evil Bush would've had him killed." To which my reply is "But Dan Rather outed that source and had him on his show withing one week of realizing the documents weren't verified. Isn't that the worst thing a journalist can do? Out a source that will be killed by the evil Bush?" "And is that source dead now? What? He isn't? Then why again was this source anonymous and touted by CBS as unimpeachable?"

Darkwing, I'm one of the unfortunate people who happen to live in Hinchey's district. My family and I have never voted for him and never would. Sadly, many folks here continue to support him for various reasons: he's brought his share of pork to the district, done a few good things for the folks,is a liberal socialist(obviously) in a district that has more than it's share of the same:( Then there are the "greenies..."
I'd love to get Maurice out of Congress. The first time I met him, I was with an old, free-spirited Woodstock friend. She had always supported Hinchey, until that day she and I met him. She was as put-off by his demeanor and words as I was, and later told me she was shocked and had changed her opinion of him entirely. I'll try writing him, and others, but it'll be an uphill battle. P.S. I'm not a POS, nor are other decent folk who may have very misguidedly voted for him ;-) Best FREgards, Tabor

Addendum: I must add that that I'm in full agreement Hinchey is an idiot :) Does that mean he truly believes these assinine remarks he tends to make? Don't know for sure, but rather doubt it. The problem we conservatives face is education of the masses, and we all know how difficult it is at this point to overcome the "big lies" and leftist propaganda, but we must persevere with logical, unassailable, factual debate. Thanks. I realize that. Yep, I'm very embarrassed, but don't even know how many people here would be aware of the things Hinchey says. Of those who may be and support him, there's been a full-on epidemic of BDS. Pure emotionalism, no real facts.
I've so often wanted desperately to write letters to the editor locally, and will one of these days. It will require very careful thought, research and writing. The letter-to-the-editor sections here are always, always liberal-oriented and the very few pro-administration letters over the past years have often been poor examples for our side. Tabor

McAuliffe made the same claim right after it happened. I followed this story in a web site in Texas where Burkett posted. I am inclined to believe this is actually the case. If so, it was brilliant in that the NG story went into the toilet and Dan Rather and his minions were flushed as well.

Exactly! Rather said the source was "Unimpeachable", meaning "completely truthful/honest". Does this retread congressman think for a second that CBS or Rather would PROTECT Rove if this was the case? Why would Rather allow himself to be resigned from his job to protect Rove? For that matter, I never understood why CBS didn't eventually name the real source. It almost destroyed CBS news. This could be the story of the century if someone would dig up the real forger.

Even if he did, why did Rather et. al. not do much of a check - if any - to see how they compared to existing documents, and why did they misrepresent the things their hired "experts" told them?

BUt Hinchey's trying to have it both ways, in the same way that Rather did.

Let's see...first, retaining flight status is not mandatory; second, the physical is done during the pilot's birth month; third, in the Guard it takes more than a week to set up flight physicals with the medical command; fourth, the type of plane that Lt. Bush was flying was being decommissioned; fifth, there is existing known documentation that confirms that Lt. Bush in particular was not required to take the physical until his birth month and that his flight status was suspended at *that* time.
