Teach what!? About the Confederate flag? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
(remember his last ditch effort to get the honkey vote by saying he was "going to my favorite watering hole and talk about the confederacy"?)

funny, i just saw this. BTW he has a Bach from Penn and a law degree from Mich. Pretty weak for such a good school. Ford would be teaching undergrad in the school of Arts and Sciences. Vandy's ratings have been pretty good in recent years. this will definitely knock them down a few notches...

What the hell is he qualified to teach? Does he even have a masters degree? Most people teaching at Vandy have a doctorate I'm sure.
Higher ed. is a racket and the government out to quit subsidizing these universities that just add layers of administration and give jobs to out of work politicians.

Why, oh why, am I not surprised? Of course, he'll need a lot of time off to visit his relatives in jail, but Vanderbilt has good benefits to cover all that.

Pretty cool. Just like the movie.

I am waiting for the same VU faculty that whined about the previous Chancellor not having a PHD, to complain about jr not even having a MastersI have no idea what the highest degree Harold Ford possesses. College profs are supposed to be experts in their field so expecting a PhD is fine. A Masters degree is the minimum I know of to even be adjunct faculty. If Ford doesn't have even a Masters, then this "job" should be counted as a political donation and regulated as such.

Not sure I see your point. Both Penn and Michigan Law are ranked higher than Vandy.

Is this what Vanderbilt U. does with it's state Democrat losers? Give them a teaching position. Al Gore, after his defeat for the Presidency, was given a post also, I believe.

Most people teaching at Vandy have a doctorate I'm sure. The little dumb kid in the back of the rooms asks, didn't Gore teach there some, what did he have a degree in.

He has a higher degree, a Juris Doctor. His one little problem is he never passed the bar, so he's not a lawyer.

Anita Hill was given a job at Oklahoma University, if I recall. She is now at Brandeis.

Apparently a law degree is treated like a doctorate in academics. That seems to be what Gee has. I remember him from Ohio State, the odds-on favorite at the BCS championship!
When an OSU wrestler tried to strangle a cop, and the cop hit him with his flashlight, OSU did not support the police officer. Gee was in charge then.

Ok, educate me please. I looked up juris doctor and found it replaced the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). Wikipedia says "In the U.S., those individuals wishing to obtain specialized training in a particular area of the law may earn the LL.M. (Master of Laws) as a post J.D. degree, and those wishing to pursue academic research in law may earn the S.J.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science) which is an academic research degree."
So is the juris doctor equivalent to a Masters or a Bachelors? My Masters is in a totally different field from law so I truly don't know.

As far as I know, it's a genuine doctorate. It was generally adopted in the late 1960s to give lawyers equivalent professional standing to Medical Doctors, both having three or more years of post-graduate education.
To: moonman
Actually Gore didn`t rate as high as Vandy.
He had to settle for MTSU at Murfresboro.

Yeah, but if a lawyer tried to call himself DOCTOR Shyster, esq., he'd be laughed at for his pomposity. I knew a physician's assistant (PA) which is a masters level degree, who also had a PHd in education. She could have called herself "Doctor Smith", but she didin't want to imply to patients that she was an M.D.

He has a law degree from the University of Michigan, like Ann Coulter. Except he couldn't pass the TN bar exam.
I was a little surprised at this - the usual recycling program for failed Democrats is the Kennedy School of Government.
To: MovementConservative; SmithL
Institutions of "higher learning" are a favorite holding tank for failed Democrats.
Oh by the way, Ford is really quite stupid. Yes, that's correct, "stupid," not "ignorant." I would have thought that the the Vandy people were a littler less politically correct than most ... based on what I know of the students ... but I guess I'm ignorant of the situation ... then again, I'm not faculty.

Vandy recently hired one the ringleaders of the faculty lynch mob at Duke...perhaps the nastiest one of the lot, to judge from some of the things he reportedly said. No doubt they are very proud of having lured him to Vanderbilt.

All you say is true; however, the fact remains that the academic community recognized the JD as a valid doctorate. Thus, if Jr. Ford is required to have a doctorate to do his teaching, he's got one.
To: Verginius Rufus
Professor Houston Baker is a disgrace.
Vanderbilt should never have considered hiring him.
