if the republican governor gets the chance to appoint a special replacement, look for the dems to demand a democratic replacement... and look for it to end up in court...

this nonsense will bring the end to any of the little admiration i have for our elected officials...

With Republicans staying with same type of leadership they had before November 7th, I don't think the Senate will be any different either way.

It was Paul Coverdell, who had a Stroke and died within four or five days. He was GWB's leading Campaign Adviser in the Senate. He died July 2000 I believe. Since the Governor of Georgia at the time was a Dem, he appointed the Democrat Former Governor Zell Miller to the Post.

Frankly... my tinfoil might be on too tight... but losing the Senate in this manner would be a dream come true for the Democrats.

They have won their Great Victory. The American People, at least in their minds, has endorsed the Democrat Party and rejected the Wascally Wepublicans. But now they have a problem. Now they have to lead.

But if they lose the Senate over something like this, it is their Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card. The fact that they will not be able to accomplish anything will not be their fault, but rather can be blamed on unjust fate.

If the Democrat Party actually tried to implement any of their policies, the people would judge the policies by the results. But if they are prevented from doing so by Random Chance, the policies can still be held out as untested ideals.

I'm guessing we still don't know for sure what he's suffering from.

In any case, Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Here in Washington DC the media is quick to point out that there is no constitutional provision for the removal of a senator in the case of his or her inability to serve. On the way in this morning I heard stories of senators who were unable to speak, were seriously ill, or otherwise incapacitated, and they still held their seats.

I hope the senator recovers, and my prayers for his family, but I doubt that, unless he actually dies, the Democrats will never declare his seat vacant.

I am saddened that even his own party seems more concerned with politics than his personal health.

C'mon now, let's be fair. It was the fifth post on the first thread on Johnson's condition, within minutes of the first news, before the first FReeper asked about the party affiliation of South Dakota's governor.

I hope he recovers, but until his future is clearer expect a lot of irrational blather coming from the Libs. Have the moonbat conspiracy nuts started putting his sudden illness in the "Wellstone murder" category yet?

Actually, I sort of hope it was a mild stroke- from which he should be able to make a speedy and full recovery. If the stuttering and incoherence weren't caused by a mild stroke or heart attack, then there may be something much more seriously wrong. Pray he doesn't have a growth of some sort....

Two years lost to Dhimmis could be the 2 years the War on Terror swings out of control and we suffer more 9/11's, it could mean that we can not solidify a majority on the Supreme Court, it could mean the amnesty of illegal aliens, who will vote Dhimmis, and the end of any chance of the GOP to be a majority party.

"We should also expect conspiracy theories that conservatives caused his condition."

They better start tracing that radiation trail.

While conservatives discuss this matter and shudder at the ghoulish aspects of determining a successor should one be necessary, you can bet that the libs have already begun a plan to thwart it. Look at their sleazy machinations during the Torecelli/Lautenberg fiasco. Libs cheat, and if Sen. Johnson is unable to serve, they will cheat again. Bank on it.

When the press is constantly telling us that Democrats are worried that Republicans may take the Senate, they are very likely telling us that they think the Republicans are going to take the Senate.

The way the media is handling this tells me the reporters have been told that this was an emergency operation and the prognosis is not very good.

If they have been told that the Senator is likely to recover the media would be telling us that it is likely that the Senator will recover.

If they have been told by by doctors and Senator Reid that his chances are very slim then the media will not report that his chances are slim. Even the media is not that cruel. Instead they will report that the Democrats are worried the Republicans may take the senate.

The story that Democrats fear that Republicans may take the Senate is a way of telling us that there is little or no chance that the Senator will recover.

I wish it were not true... But that is my take on the reporting. But there is always hope... and the Senator may still pull a miraculous recovery. The Doctors predicted I would be dead or a vegetable just a little over 2 months ago. The Doctors were wrong.

An elderly friend and his wife were on a cruise a couple of weeks ago. Five hours into the trip, the gent had what all thought to be a stroke. Later it was determined to be some type of aneurysm. He was helicoptered to a hospital and a stint (sp) was inserted through a vein in his leg and installed into his brain. It was the third procedure of the type ever to be performed. He was in perfect health two days later when I ran into him at a meeting.

We would be doing the same thing. The control of one branch of government depends on his health. We would be concerned as well, if one our folks got sick, and it would hand the Senate over to the rats.
