Power sharing would be between Reid and McConnell. Lott is simply the Whip.

I don't think McConnell would be rolled as easily as Lott was.

the Dems will prop him up in his seat whether he can function or not rather than let an R pick his replacement.

We should also expect conspiracy theories that conservatives caused his condition.

God is in control of all things. The Democrats just thought they were in control. God can start culling the herd any day He wants to.

Sen. Harry Reid, the Democratic leader, rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon

For some reason, this got my attention. Maybe I am really cynical.

As long as Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and their ilk are in the senate, there will be no such 50-50 tie for the vice president to break.

Are you seeking some sort of equivalence? You'll find little to none...

Their conspiracy and spin theories are in the super turbo mode at DU anf kos. They are dragging out JFK, MLK, Bobby, John Lennon, Wellstone, and anyone else they can think of. One that cracked me up was having the DLC sue the Governor of South Dakota, should the Senator not recover, if he is replaced by a Republican for "Thwarting" the will of America.

"I am saddened that even his own party seems more concerned with politics than his personal health."

Remember the Paul Wellstone "memorial?" Of course democrats don't care about the person nearly as much as the politics. The senator from South Dakota, just like the late Paul Wellstone, is nothing but an interchangeable cog within the democrat party. They could care less about the guys health. They only care about how his seat in the U.S. Senate brings them power.

The only time I can remember a senator passing away in office was back in the late 1990's. I cannot recall the names of the persons involved but the republican senator from Georgia was replaced by the democrat Governor of Georgia with Zell Miller, who we all know is a democrat. The change did not tip the balance of power in the Senate.

I have no doubt that if the situation was reversed that the democrats would demand that the Governor appoint one of their own for the express reason of changing the balance of power.

A related title: Senator has surgery, Democrats fret.

The only fretting media quote is from Harry Reid, wishing Johnson well.

I guess I am not political enough to wish bad on anyone just to retake the Senate, although I have been close with certain hateful Senators.....

I think Tim Johnson is one of the good guys.....hope he recovers.....

God Bless him and his son ...

Saddened, yes. Surely you aren't surprised, though?

Could you please ask that that comment be removed? You can't seriously mean that.

Meanwhile, the news is reporting that the senator is in critical condition.
