I'd also like to point out that KFC made a very public private decision to stop using trans fats. It was bad for business and they knew it. The government didn't make them do it.

As for banning trans fat, it's not a food its a cheap food additive. Yes, other things will still be unhealthy so don't despair everything unhealthy isn't being outlawed.

How do they plan to make pie crust without Crisco? Lard?

"They are in everything now and if they are so especially unhealthy I say ban or prominently label them."

Nice going, comrade williams.

I don't think trans fats are worth defending. As I understand it, they are the result of an artificial process to create a cheaper "butter" with a longer shelf life.

Actually this is the misinformation being distributed by the media--at least according to the FDA. The FDA website says that trans fats also occur naturally in meat and dairy products.

Makes perfect sense to me that the idiot media, RAT politicans, and a faux Republican like Bloomberg would shoot their mouths off without knowing what they are talking about.

If we were talking about banning butter or fatty hamburgers that would be a different story.

They'll be banning butter and burgers as soon as you become used to the 'trans fat' ban.

"I was stunned when I read that during WWII and during Viet Nam, it was not unusual for coconut milk to be pumped DIRECTLY into the bloodstream of seriously injured soldiers to rehydrate them and boost their energy levels."

Fascinating!

I'm amazed at how much stuff I learn on this forum!

Naturally occuring trans fats are not what is being dealt with here. Partially hydrogenated oil is not natural.

Any time Herr Fuhrer.

Both comments are equally absurd.

I think you are missing the entire point. The health nannies forced these companies to mak changes to use this stuff, and now the next generation of health nannies is doing the opposite.

The government nannies need to just leave well enough alone and the market will fix itself.

That was exactly my point. If all trans fats are bad (one NYC politician calls them poisons), it is illogical to exclude those that occur naturally.

A "poison" (his description, not mine) is a poison regardless of whether it comes from a factory or Mother Nature.

Mr. Jacobsen is a victim of his own success; am I the only one who knows that Dave Oreck still has a Kirby vacuum cleaner at home?

Crisco was the start; the company's founders were trying to make a better candle.

So if the government decides it has the moral authority to protect my health, can I sue them for not protecting me earlier?

In fact, why doesn't the family of every heart attack or stroke victim in New York sue Bloomberg for negligence for not doing this once he heard about trans fats?

Perhaps having to take responsibility for being a nanny will make them re-think nannying us.
