Syracuse radio station WFBL reports that Lauren Maggi, 35, of Thurber Street was charged with harassment for spitting in a soldier's face at Hancock Airport.
The incident happened over the Thanksgiving holiday. Maggi approached a soldier from the 10th Mountain Division, who apparently was not in uniform, and asked if he was a soldier. When he said yes, Maggi allegedly spit in his face.
WFBL's news service is supplied by television station WTVH, which has nothing posted yet about the incident on its website. Syracuse.com carries this blurb:
Woman accused of spitting on soldier A Syracuse woman was charged after a Fort Drum soldier accused her of spitting on him without provocation at Hancock Airport, Syracuse police said.
On January 18 of this year, Lauren Maggi, 34, of Thurber Street, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Someone tell me again about how the Left supports the troops, but not their mission.
Update: More details:
Jason Jones, 21, told police a woman he did not know walked up to him near the United Airlines ticket counter, asked him if he was a Fort Drum solider and, when he responded that he was, spat in his face.
Police searched the airport garage and located a woman fitting the description that Jones provided, who was later identified as Maggi. Police escorted her into the terminal, where Jones identified her as the woman who had spit on him. A second soldier on the scene supported Jones' accusation, police said.
Maggi offered no explanation for her conduct, police said. She could not be reached for comment Thursday night.

This was also on John Gibson's on Fox. This may be an isolated nutcake, but the lefties will no doubt be emboldened by the election an incidents like this could increase. It is not a bit more tolerable now than it was in the Vietnam era.

1. The proper charge is "assault with bodily fluids." In this day and age of AIDS, it could amount to attempted murder under some conditions.
2. They haven't graduated to throwing bags full of urine and feces at the troops. That was my welcome home.

Series question - can she be arrested for assault? In most states, yes. "Assault by bodily fluids" is a fairly recent development, but our friend, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, makes it necessary.

If anything qualifies as a hate crime, this sure does.
I'm no fan of the concept of "hate crimes" but if we are going to have them, the the Left needs to be held accountable too.

It says that she has been charged with harassment. I don't know if that is a lesser charge than assault; probably is... She should be charged to the full extent of the law and punished in a way that makes her think twice about ever doing it again.

I daresay that six months of confinement ANYWHERE might have been an acceptable tradeoff for giving those disloyal SOBs what they truly deserved.
I salute you and admire your restraint that I quite frankly wouldn't have in such a confrontation.

Before the War started my son was on liberty in Victoria, B.C. and in uniform. He was standing with some buddies when a woman spat at them (did not hit him). He was shocked at the action, but several by standers intervened, pushed her away, apologized and then invited my son and his two friends into a near by pub for beer.
There are always a few A-holes, but also more good people to support our guys!

The one case I know of where it MIGHT have turned violent happened while I was a cop in San Diego--a Marine NCO told the sailor "he ain't worth six months at Portsmouth."
Apparently, Portsmouth Naval Prison was every bit as infamous as The Castle.

It has. Wait for Hollyweird to remake some of the "Psycho Headcase Vietnam Vet" movies into "Psycho Headcase Iraq Vet" movies.
Black Sunday remake: the blimp pilot is working with Halliburton, the Mossad, and Christian Fundamentalists to blow up the Super Bowl. Only a peace-loving member of Hizbullah can stop him.

How can anyone be surprised by this behavior? It's being actively encouraged by the Democratic Party. Senators Dick Durbin, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy are three of the worst (but not the only) offenders purposely fueling hatred for our military personnel solely for their own political gain. And anyone who publicly supports the likes of Cindy Sheehan is just as guilty as this woman who did the spitting.
