Aide: Jimmy Carter 'Invented Segments' for Book
NewsMax ^ | 7 December 2006

Posted on 12/06/2006 11:01:05 PM PST by Aussie Dasher

A longtime aide to Jimmy Carter has resigned from the Carter Center think tank, calling the former president's new book on Israel and the Arabs one-sided and filled with errors.

Kenneth Stein, the Carter Center's first executive director and founder of its Middle East program, sent a letter that bluntly criticized the book to Carter and others.

Stein wrote that the book, "Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid," was replete with factual errors, material copied from other sources and "simply invented segments," according to an excerpt of the letter published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Deanna Congileo, Carter's spokeswoman, said the former president stands by the book.

Stein, who is also director of the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel at Emory University, did not immediately return a call Wednesday.

Carter issued a brief statement saying that Stein had not been actively involved with the center for more than 12 years and was not involved with the new book. Carter did not directly address Stein's allegations.

It is not the first time Carter and Stein have disagreed over Middle East policy, said Douglas Brinkley, a professor of history at Tulane University and the author of the 1988 Carter biography, "The Unfinished Presidency."

"They've never been on the same page in the Middle East. They've been in an almost constant state of disagreement," Brinkley said. Stein "doesn't trust the Palestinians as much as Carter."

Brinkley said he has read Carter's new book but would not address Stein's accusations.

Gave the Panama Canal to the Panamanians. Lots of reasons not to like Carter; he lusted after women in his heart, bad boy.

Whole parts of his presidency were "Invented segments".

I'll never forget this idiot sitting there with a sweater on and telling us we must do the same to conserve energy.

But I guess the sweater *is* the symbol of the DNC.

How does Jimmy Carter have any credibility on foreign policy after letting Iranian college students hold Americans hostage and then making a phony pact with Kim-Jong Il that bought him enough time to build a nuclear weapons program with American money?

I bet Jimmy is glad Hellary is now running for POTUS. He now stands to lose his title as worst President of all time. On the other hand, maybe he is is proud of that title judging how he acts.

Brinkley said. Stein "doesn't trust the Palestinians as much as Carter."

In this case I'll go with Stein.
I mean where have they shown any signs of being trustworthy?

"A viler evil than to murder a man, is to sell him suicide as an act of virtue." Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

In this case the Palestinians take the cake on both evils, murder and murder suicide. We call it terrorism, folks, and there is no justification for this evil inflicted upon innocents.

Stupid is as stupid does ...and says, Jimmah's case here.

Jimmah seems to be a graduate of the Doris Kearns Goodwin School of Writing Historical Fiction and Trying To Pass It Off as History.

It is noticeable that Carter issued a brief statement saying that Stein had not been actively involved with the center for more than 12 years and was not involved with the new book. Carter did not directly address Stein's allegations.

The wrong Carter brother died young. The older Jimmah gets, the more obnoxious he becomes, but there's always a book mill that will let him publish his screeds.

After the Nixon funeral, and the unabashedly widespread outpouring of adoration and sadness of the Reagan funeral, Jimmah's heart has been rotting even faster, green with envy and seething with rage as his small page in history's great tome lists him as the All-Time, Number One Worst US President, EVER.

Fox&Friends reported that Stein is going to write his own book that details the errors in Carter's book.

Others are saying Stein is doing sour grapes because he was not acknowledged in the book as a researcher.

[Doh! If it is filled with erroneous and inaccurate data, Stein probably did not want to be acknowledged as being associated with Carter's book.]

Grant was a failure as a President....but....his memoirs are considered to be one of the great works of American literature and the greatest war memoir since Caesar wrote his Gallic Wars some 2,000 years earlier, in Latin.

So, in a sense, yes, Grant's retirement was a miserable failure as he was broke and cancer ridden. But...his retirement was also arguably the most successful of any US President in history. History has its ironies, I suppose.

At least Grant did something useful before he became President. In his memoirs he details his military service, but leaves out his Presidency, which is just as well.

It's too bad he'll probably always be insulated from the knowledge of exactly how despicable a large segment of humanity finds him.

It is my dream to someday write an historical piece that Doris steals. Apparently, it's not all that difficult. If she likes something, it's hers.

Dr. Stein was on Fox news during the past few days and totally exposed Carter's book. He stated the book was based on unvarnished analysis by Carter, it was replete with factual errors, copied materials and maps were not cited, superficialities, glarring omissions and totally invented segments of what he (Carter) wanted a situation to be. Dennis Ross, a Fox news anaylist on Israel and the middle east said the maps in Carters book never existed until he(Ross) created them. Carter said he got the maps out of a map book.....sic!! Carter needs for someone somplace to stick a soc in his mouth, and banish him to his rocking chair on the front porch on the peanut farm. Everytime he opens his mouth he hurts America. He is an ex president, but doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and in time of war, that is dangerous!

Doris Kearns school of writing, uh?? Wonderful..seems like all the Democrats send their ex presidents to that school...Clinton graduated summa cum laude..but I must say his writings were a little more colorful. Seems they need a few more classes on how to copy a little better..we should check with Ms. Kearns on that!!
