Hi snugs. Thanks for your concern. I'm OK. I was born and raised in the New York City metro area and have lived in L.A County for the past 30 years. Also spent a little time in Miami and Indianapolis in my youth. So I'm no stranger to the darker side of big city living.
Here in L.A. there's always some kind of police action going on somewhere. Some neighborhoods are better than others, of course, but rent in those neighborhoods are way beyond the reach of most people. And even the better neighborhoods are not immune from crime.
But having said all that, it is disconcerting to be coming home from work only to find you can't get to your house. That young hospital worker couldn't get to her baby. I couldn't get to my animals. Hundreds of other people were similarly inconvenienced, and the people who were in their homes when all this happened must have been frightened.
Just another notch in my already low opinion of human kind, broadly speaking.
Yes, I think both of them look drawn and are showing every bit of their 60 years in those photos. A lot of traveling lately, the incident with their daughter, constant threats and ugliness in the media -- it takes its toll, I'm sure.
Thanks, ilovew. I don't know if the cops caught the scumbag. Maybe there will be something about it on the local news later.
Sounds like fun, although I wonder when you ever sleep. ;-)
Remember that time you called in sick because "you thought you might be coming down with something and didn't want to infect the office"? And you briefly worried that was too transparent of an excuse and might raise eyebrows?
Well, CareerBuilder.com's annual survey on absenteeism has you beat--by miles. Hiring managers shared the most unusual excuses workers had come up with for missing work including an employee who said he was poisoned by his mother-in-law.
Other gems:
- A buffalo escaped from the game reserve and kept charging the employee every time she tried to go to her car from her house.
- Employee was feeling all the symptoms of his expecting wife.
- Employee called from his cell phone, said he was accidentally locked in a restroom stall and no one was around to let him out.
- Employee had bad hiccups.
- Employee blew his nose so hard, his back went out.
And my favorite:
- Employee was sad.
Thanks for yet another fine Dose.
LOL! That one tickles my funny bone for sure.
Thanks for your concern, Cow. All is quiet and peaceful in the neighborhood now, thank goodness. If there's anything about this incident on the local news, I'll update everyone on the outcome tomorrow. But I think it was just a garden variety incident here in L.A. County.
BTW, Cow, did you see the thread about the CNET editor and his family who visited the northwest for Thanksgiving and are now missing? They never made it home. Young couple with a toddler and a 7-month-old. Last anyone heard from them, they had called a hotel to make a reservation, but then never showed up. Very sad.
Snugs doesn't sleep - I'm sure of it.
I do think I will have time this weekend to conjure up a custom test, of a suitably large file to try uploading, that will better highlight the kind of corruption (though perhaps not the cause of it ;) that you are seeing.
Stay tuned for that -- or better yet, get some sleep ;).
Looking at my SanityIsland.us image server for the last week, I've gotten 98,000 page hits, from 3134 distinct users (distinct ip addresses).
And that's just picking up the images snugs posted.
Don't see any Gay gingerbread men on that tree !!!
Hey Snugs,
How's it going? Getting sleepy? I took a nap today too, so I'm not really tired yet myself.

Well, all is going fine here in the islands; but I can't say the same for at home... Right in the middle of our taking the rental car back (Mom follows me downtown, and we drop off the rental car I rent to get to her house from the airport) I call hubby and find out that on the way up to see his brother in the mountains, he got into a motorcycle accident. He was cautiously approaching this UPS truck that was double parked. He was only going about 20 miles an hour, and this older man came out from the side, and must have stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. To avoid hitting him, hubby dumped the bike. He had on what I call his "Frankenstein boots" even, but the bike fell on his left foot, and made it make a 90 turn to the left, then got crushed by the bike falling on it. He broke a bone in his ankle, and dislocated it. He had surgery yesterday to put metal pins in it, and relocate all the bones, and is in the hospital. His wonderful brother is now staying at our house and taking care of the dogs. Never a dull moment at our house, huh? I feel so helpless being a "fix it" person, and not being there to do so. We are blessed to have great relatives and friends. The neighbor had to crawl through the doggy door to open it for his bro. I guess it helps to have SMALL, helpful, neighbors, too!!!
I just hope he can get home and can be a bit mobile, soon...for his brother's sake. He has to go on a business trip on Monday. Yikes. Hubby will be hobblin' for a while and the puppies can be quite a handful.
Well, Mele Kalikimaka and Mahalo for "listening" ;-)
Have a great day, all!
OMG! What a nightmare for you and your neighbors.

So glad to know that You are okay!
*See* Ya for Sat. Dose & thanks for Fridays!
