"In the first place God made idiots," observed Mark Twain. "This was for practice. Then he made school boards." The San Francisco Board of Education's 4-2 vote last week to abolish the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program, which has been active in the city's high schools for 90 years, tends to support his view.
Why is JROTC being done away with? It isn't for lack of interest. More than 1,600 San Francisco students currently take part in its voluntary activities. "Kids love this program as if it's family," notes the San Francisco Chronicle. It is "a program that students and their parents wholeheartedly support."
Finances aren't the problem either. Operating JROTC costs the city less than $1 million out of an annual school budget of $356 million.
Nor is the problem bad management. The Chronicle reports that "no one has offered an alternative as coherent and well-run as JROTC."
Safety? Also not a problem. Though cadets have uniforms, they carry no weapons; the nonviolent programs emphasize leadership, self-discipline, citizenship, and teamwork. "This is where the kids feel safe," says one JROTC instructor, retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Robert Powell.
And the problem certainly isn't an absence of diversity. In a story on JROTC cadets at Galileo High School, Chronicle reporter Jill Tucker writes: "These students are 4-foot-10 to 6-foot-4. Athletic and disabled. College-bound and barely graduating. Gay and straight. White, black, and brown. Some leave school for large homes with ocean views. Others board buses for Bayview-Hunters Point." Several of the students come from immigrant families. At least one is autistic.

You know, whenever I read about this kind of foolishness in San Fransicko I can see justification for yanking all of their federal funding.
Yank it all. Not one red cent goes to that sinkhole of iniquity. If another earthquake happens, let that coven of self-righteous leftists dig themselves out. If they need money to rebuild, go get some from George Soros.

so.. either we offer the city up for auction to any foreign country that wants it... or we increase their taxes to cover their 'due', since support and participation are out of the question. and by increasing their taxes... i'm not talking about a paltry 10%... i'm thinking 20% would be about right.
Yes, I agree, so goes the nation.
Right now I'm really feeling really depressed about the Dems winning, and how the Repubs are also screwing us with illegals (who VOTE btw, and also commit a LOT of crime in the Bay Area).
I'm feeling overwhelmed and depressed about it all.
We're going to end up like the UK Conservative Party - toothless and irrelevant unless people can stop illegals, but maybe we're just totally doomed, and nothing will ever change.
For later.
The Bay Area, yes, but this story is not talking about the bay area, just San Francisco school districts.
So much military and the people and businesses that go with it has moved out of San Francisco that I would not be surprised if the city is now a taking in more tax dollars than the city is paying. Even Bank of America moved out of SF, over to Oakland.
Just what the liberals hate. No wonder JROTC is gone.
I think they like the national guard...for making sandbags for hurricanes. They want to have a military thats on par with say Belgium.
IMHO, the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps was a doomed organization in California especially San Francisco.
Why look at all the things it did:
It was a finically responsible program.
It was well managed program.
It was a safe program.
It was the epitome of diversity.
It taught the core values of leadership, self-discipline, citizenship, and teamwork.
It was a conservative lead organization.
The Junior ROTC program had at least 7 major strikes against it so, of course, the liberals in the School Board had to disband it. Why can't the rest of us see the validity of their reasoning?
In three weeks the city would be livable.
.
You are correct.
The Enemy is now within...
...and always has been..!!
I'll NEVER FORGET...
....seeing a young student activist named BARBARA BOXER lead Anti-U.S. Demonstrations aimed at shutting down all San Francisco City Government operations during the Vietnam War.

I am not sure this is a bad thing. It keeps liberals raised in San Francisco from serving in our military, bringing their strange ways with them.
