Faced with rising public acceptance of same-sex relationships, three U.S. Christian denominations are taking strong measures this week to condemn homosexual acts as sinful.

The nation's Roman Catholic bishops, meeting in Baltimore...
[snip]
The largest Baptist group in North Carolina...
[snip]
And on Wednesday in Pittsburgh, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a mainline Protestant denomination with about 3 million members...

Cool! Very refreshing to see the churches taking a firm stand on the Word of God.

That's OK. I think I read that 3 gay groups are condemning Christian sex. Or maybe it was just elton john.

It needs to be said over and over again.
These people are sick and they need help. Until we as a society go back to acknowledging that it is a sickness, they will continue to live lives of denial and self destruction that affects all of our society.

» it is real shocking Bible-believing Churches would also Actually, I am a little shockedpleasantly soby the action of the PC(USA) in this regard. It's a mainline denomination that has been theologically adrift for several decades now. To see them affirm Biblical truth on such a hot-button issue is really a nice surprise!

Really, they aren't condemning gay sex. They are simply stating that God does not condone it and as a result, they cannot, either.

I'll believe the PC-USA is condemning gay sex when the news release actually comes out. Otherwise, I am led to believe it's actually the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America, a more conservative branch) doing this.

Their condemnation is like shooting fish in a barrel. When they come out swinging against divorce (yes, the Catholic Church has, but it not spoken of often), I'll believe they are ready to step up to the plate and help families.

It's nice to see Washington Post is catching up on their stories since this condemnation from the churches is over 2000+ years now and last I checked there was a few more than only 3 Christian Groups that have condemned these acts.

Should a couple be somehow forced to stay together and if they don't they're not allowed back into church?

Next step is for them to respond to the Muslim danger. It is not gay sex (private acts) that will destroy us but it is Islam (world-wide threat) that poses the greater danger.

Now we need to re-educate society with 'OVEHAULING OF GAY AMERICAN /WORLD THINKING'....We need to do so with compassion and understanding. Tell them they do have a choice. Show them the way to overcome those unwanted, not asked for, same sex feelings [early on if possible]. Give them the support to do so [like AA;GA;SAA etc. do] and then help them succeed. This is what has been lost in the pro-gay rhetoric for 30+ years. Finally, demand the pro-gay propaganda be eliminated from our public school curriculums.

3 Christian Groups Move To Condemn Gay SexYes, we should all be more somber when having conjugal relations.
Perhaps a more accurate headline would be "3 Christian Groups Move To Condemn HOMOSEXUAL Sex".
To: billbears
Should a couple be somehow forced to stay together and if they don't they're not allowed back into church?Jesus nowhere in the Gospels gives a direct condemnation of homosexuality (he does make passing references to Sodom and Gomorrah), but he does give a direct prohibition of divorce, saying that persons who remarry after divorce are guilty of adultury (except in cases of infidelity).
To: TonyRo76; wagglebee; little jeremiah; EdReform
After Queen Hildebea$t wins the 2008 election and more rats get elected to congress. This action by these church leaders will become the poster boy hate crime model for the homosexuals and the rats.

Jesus nowhere in the Gospels gives a direct condemnation of homosexuality Oh please. Where did He cancel the Levitical laws on morality? Because Jesus didn't directly mention it as prohibited, it's now acceptable to sleep with animals and ALL your relatives? Oh and Steve and Dave can marry? What kind of "logic" is that?

The nation's Roman Catholic bishops, What part of "Intrinsically disordered" do folks not understand?
The largest Baptist group in North Carolina...
Regardless of other disagreements I may have with them, their moral theology has always been pretty sound.
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
The PCUSA? Now that's somewhat surprising.

"Should a couple be somehow forced to stay together and if they don't they're not allowed back into church?" The Church hands out papers that says the marriage never existed, which is ridiculous. Then allows the party(s) that filed for divorce to remarry in the Church. That act of hand waiving and issuing papers saying the marriage never existed is not supporting marriage. They should tell the parties that filed for divorce w/o just cause, that their marriage was good, what they are doing is wrong and not remarry the party(s) that did the wrong.
