FreeRepublic is one of the most influential and diverse web sites on the Internet, in which lively, well-informed discussions of science, philosophy, religion, and culture all flourish, every day. Well miss the contributions of our departed friends.
Others were banned. Long-time FReepers have seen this before. The last major eruption of this sort was followed by an exodus of Young-Earth-Creationists.
In both cases, disaffected FReepers left and established alternative websites, from which they lobbed disparaging attacks on FR at will DesignedUniverse, and Darwin Central respectively, both of which seemingly draw audiences of the like-minded only. In any case, we trust that folks eventually realize that it is unwise policy to burn your bridges behind you.
In any case, no one can say that Jim Robinson isnt fair-minded and even-handed. The DU cases ought to be proof enough that he doesnt target Darwinists or methodological naturalists for his displeasure. It seems clear to me that almost all points of view are welcome here, provided people behave themselves in civilized manner, and do not undermine the purpose for which this wonderful Forum exists: the defense of our free republic, of our national sovereignty, and of our American way of life.
Jim Robinson himself has spoken to this issue very clearly recently, here and here.
It hardly needs saying that we were delighted to discover how very much Jims comments anticipate our own analysis of the current cultural situation, as we document it in Timothy in a lighthearted but deadly serious way.
Now you've gone and done it, watch the Eastern Rite Catholics come out of the woodwork for weeks. Whaddabout Antioch, Alexandria, and Constantinople, what are they, chopped liver?
Congrats on the new book!

Indeed, years ago when a group of Young Earth Creationists left Free Republic in a huff and holed up at DesignedUniverse.com the accusation being hurled over the walls was that Free Republic didnt want creationists around, that evolution had won, yada yada.
Obviously the debate didnt end there.
Now, just a month or so ago a group of Evolutionists left Free Republic in a huff and holed up at DarwinCentral.org the accusation being hurled over those walls is that Free Republic didnt want evolutionists around, that creationism had won, yada yada.
And Im quite sure the debate will not end here either.
Coming out of retirement for one post:
I obviously have not yet read your book, but from your past posts here, and the table of contents you posted from your new book, you are still doing apologetics and philosophy, not science.
There really is a difference.
Yup. I miss my friend 'Coyoteman'. He was the only professional archaeologist we had on this site.
Bump that! I also was just overwhelmed with joy to read Jim Robinson's treatment of these very (Timothy) things so recently.
I do love your subtitle.
I very rarely post on the crevo threads (it's been years) because the creationist posters have sincere religious beliefs which I don't wish to offend at all. I genuinely respect their beliefs -- they were the beliefs of my forefathers. I used to read the science articles Patrick Henry pinged us to but stayed clear of the arguments downthread. I doubt if the arguments changed anybody's mind anyway.
Recent events on FR have left a chill in the air for some of us scientifically trained political conservatives. Although none of the rancour and allegations were directed at me personally, I felt that my core values and scientific integrity had been impugned. It was like a kick in the gut from a place I respect.
Hopefully you can understand that and why people have left.
If you hve a ping list, please include me - would find this book very valuable for my homeschooling. and you are right - as a FReeper, my position in the raging debate that has been going on has never been about suppressing the Creationist point of view (I have a degree in anthropology) - rather Ive tried to assert that the two camps might actually find themselves agreeing with each other more if the scientific method was actually held up to high standards. Science began as an attempt to understand the mind of God - and I believe God graced us with the intelligence to try and puzzle his Creation out - after all, a Creator desires that the Audience appreciate his creation through curiosity and enthusiasm. I just get tired of the straw men the Creationists pose for those interested in science, and REALLY tired of being told I am not a "real" Christian because I chose a position that defends the science behind the theory of evolution.
I want a copy autographed by both of you!/ I'm sure you know that countless new inroads have been made into the world of publishing, that bypass the big money publishing houses.
