Two police officers have sued Burger King Corp., alleging personal injury, negligence, battery and violation of fair practices after they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana. "It gives a whole new meaning to the word 'Whopper,'" plaintiffs attorney Sam Bregman said Monday. "The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous."
The civil lawsuit was filed Friday in state District Court in Bernalillo County by Mark Landavazo and Henry Gabaldon, officers for the Isleta Pueblo tribal police.
Officials at Miami-based Burger King declined comment, citing a company policy against discussing pending litigation. The lawsuit says the officers were in uniform and riding in a marked patrol car when they purchased meals through the drive-through lane Oct. 8 at a Burger King restaurant in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
The officers ate about half of their burgers before discovering marijuana on the meat. They used a field test kit to confirm the substance was pot, then went to a hospital for medical evaluations. Three Burger King employees Justin Armijo, 19; Robert Nuckols, 21; and manager Joseph Ledesma, 33 were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated battery on an officer, a felony.

Have it your way.
Bernalillo. Albuquerque?
They were tribal police. I thought Indian custom allowed chewing and smoking natural herbs and plants. I guess not when a $,$$$,$$$ law suit is involved. lol

They cant be serious with this stupid charge.
It was a stupid joke they were playing, no attempt at impairment of anyone and I doubt any damage could be done from a sprinkling of marijuana. These officers take themselves much too seriously.
The people involved should be arrested , and perhaps Burger King needs a review for hiring three people that stupid, but this suit is ridiculous and an obvious attempt to collect a few bucks from large pockets.
Of course I agree with you.
I stated that these people should have been arrested, and they should be prosecuted.
It was the law suit I was havin a problem with.
Now I'm hungry for a whopper with extra lettuce.
Hold the Pickles. Hold the lettess. Special orders (might) upset us.
They're not bad except for some reason I never feel that Burger King's food is hot enough.
And your analysis is precisely why I stopped buying BKs years ago...examine the staff and then chow down....not me..
"Meat, Cheese and Bacon- Stacked High"... and we do mean 'high'!
That's what I thought too.
I don't believe anyone would be impaired by ingesting pot this way, but apparently the plaintiff's attorney doesn't have a lot of knowledge about such things.
"God forbid these officers didn't realize their burgers were laced with pot and then were called to a violent situation where they'd have to draw their firearms," Bregman said. "Their lives were placed in danger because of these idiots and Burger King."
I don't see where Burger King would be responsible for the misguided act of these yoots, but I guess they are going after someone with deep pockets instead of minimum-wage slaves.
Do as we real chili-heads do: Go to "Mohotta Mobetta" -- The World Headquarters of Hot Sauce:, order some high-octane "heat-booster"

and take it with you whenever you eat out...
Oh, you meant thermally "hot"... Sorryboutthat! ;-}
(No, I'm not advertising -- just an addicted customer...)
Whoa!
In California it is a felony to tamper with a persons' food. I seem to remember an employee at Subway being sentenced to 2 years in prison for spitting in an officers' sandwich.
I believe as you do that these oficers are after an extra pay day.
didn't the Charles Manson girls try and slip a LSD dosed burger into a witnesses hamburger during the trials?
If I'm not mistaken, spiking food/drinks did happen on numerous occasions back in the late 60/70's.??
Albuquerque uses up most of Bernalillo County.
