Burger King sued over marijuana in police officers' burgers

Two police officers have sued Burger King Corp., alleging personal injury, negligence, battery and violation of fair practices after they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana. "It gives a whole new meaning to the word 'Whopper,'" plaintiffs attorney Sam Bregman said Monday. "The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous."

The civil lawsuit was filed Friday in state District Court in Bernalillo County by Mark Landavazo and Henry Gabaldon, officers for the Isleta Pueblo tribal police.

Officials at Miami-based Burger King declined comment, citing a company policy against discussing pending litigation. The lawsuit says the officers were in uniform and riding in a marked patrol car when they purchased meals through the drive-through lane Oct. 8 at a Burger King restaurant in Los Lunas, New Mexico.

The officers ate about half of their burgers before discovering marijuana on the meat. They used a field test kit to confirm the substance was pot, then went to a hospital for medical evaluations. Three Burger King employees — Justin Armijo, 19; Robert Nuckols, 21; and manager Joseph Ledesma, 33 — were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated battery on an officer, a felony.

They cant be serious with this stupid charge.

It was a stupid joke they were playing, no attempt at impairment of anyone and I doubt any damage could be done from a sprinkling of marijuana. These officers take themselves much too seriously.

The people involved should be arrested , and perhaps Burger King needs a review for hiring three people that stupid, but this suit is ridiculous and an obvious attempt to collect a few bucks from large pockets.

Sgt. I believe it is a felony to alter any food being served in the state of Michigan. I once had a pizza to pickup and the three clowns working couldn't stop laughing, and the young man at the window couldn't find my order. They did something and when they saw me, thought better but couldn't stiffle. I wouldn't care if it was spit from a healthy person or pot. If I only wanted a sandwich, that is all I should get.

Of course I agree with you.

I stated that these people should have been arrested, and they should be prosecuted.

It was the law suit I was havin a problem with.

They're not bad except for some reason I never feel that Burger King's food is hot enough.

That's what I thought too.

I don't believe anyone would be impaired by ingesting pot this way, but apparently the plaintiff's attorney doesn't have a lot of knowledge about such things.

"God forbid these officers didn't realize their burgers were laced with pot and then were called to a violent situation where they'd have to draw their firearms," Bregman said. "Their lives were placed in danger because of these idiots and Burger King."

I don't see where Burger King would be responsible for the misguided act of these yoots, but I guess they are going after someone with deep pockets instead of minimum-wage slaves.

...for some reason I never feel that Burger King's food is hot enough.

Do as we real chili-heads do: Go to "Mohotta Mobetta" -- The World Headquarters of Hot Sauce:, order some high-octane "heat-booster"

and take it with you whenever you eat out...

Oh, you meant thermally "hot"... Sorryboutthat! ;-}

(No, I'm not advertising -- just an addicted customer...)

Could you get enough pot on a burger to cause any mind altering effects when ingested? Smoke is absorbed in a matter of second and the chemical reaches the brain shortly thereafter, but digestion and absorption takes time.

It takes quite a bit more ingested pot to get high (compared to smoked pot) but the high lasts a lot longer. 2 to 4 hours is what I've heard, and of course I would not know from personal experience, as ingesting is not as economical as smoking, and I'm all about the economy.

In California it is a felony to tamper with a persons' food. I seem to remember an employee at Subway being sentenced to 2 years in prison for spitting in an officers' sandwich.

didn't the Charles Manson girls try and slip a LSD dosed burger into a witnesses hamburger during the trials?

If I'm not mistaken, spiking food/drinks did happen on numerous occasions back in the late 60/70's.??
