Official VA reports from Isle of Wright County:
Allen 6,984 Webb 5,050 92% of precincts http://sbe.virginiainteractive.org/nov2006/l_02.htm
CNN Numbers: Allen 6,984 Webb 9050 92% of precincts http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006//pages/results/states/VA/S/01/county.002.html
One of these numbers is wrong. And its a typo
Its CNN, of course.
I have been noticing for 30-45 minutes or so that the CNN and network feeds have Webb ahead by 2500 but the Commonwealth of Virginia own website has ALLEN ahead by about the same margin.
Right now I dont know what to believe, except that the way our luck is going the G-D CNN site is probably right.
The Virginia website doesn't show Webb ahead yet:
http://sbe.virginiainteractive.org/index.htm
It must be CNN's error.

Virginia's website just put Webb on top
Either the official VA site has a typo or CNN has a typo. This is the reason for the difference.
Personally, I trust the official VA site.
Get the word out!
ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY - details 7,372 87.36% 469 5.56% 558 6.61% 40 0.47% 8,439 14 of 14 100.00%
the state website shows 52% of registered voters voting with Allen over Webb 6984 to 5050. If CNN is correct, then they had unbelievable turnout (like 70%).
If you look at the Isle of Wight numbers for the OTHER ballot questions, like the marriage amendment for example, it seems the CNN number is the one that is the typo - there are only 12-13,000 votes total in the county, not the higher number in the erroneous CNN count.
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,148,750 49.44%
G F Allen Republican 1,146,952 49.36%
G G Parker Independent Green 25,719 1.11%
Write Ins 2,294 0.10%

it does now
CNN is not Kosher..........
Even when the CNN mistake on the 4,000 votes is corrected, Michael Barone just noted that the remaining 20 precincts not yet counted in the official state results are in mostly black districts, and so that 2,000 vote lead may close when the final precincts are included, even in the 100% official Virginia results.
Time for a freeping.
Still showing:
Candidates Party Vote Totals Percentage
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,148,750 49.44%
G F Allen Republican 1,146,952 49.36%
G G Parker Independent Green 25,719 1.11%

CNN is not only not kosher, its a product touched by many unclean left hands (post wiping)
Yeah... bummer!
But still the 4000 vote difference in Isle of Wright County!!!
Shep and Carl Cameron reporting that the Allen campaign contacted the news organizations and saying they erronously transposed numbers and Allen is really up by a few thousand!!
Shep just reported something like this about transposing on FNC.
Unfortunately, with the VA website showing Webb ahead, even with the lower numbers in Isle of Wight, I'm not sure CNN's typo gets us anywhere.
There's only 8-10,000 votes. So the typo is CNN's.
Right. Ping people you know. Get the word out. This is outrageous that all the major news organizations are reporting a silly typo!
However, the extra 4,000 vote total represents an increase of 1/3 more than the regular voting base in the county.
Ain't happenin'.
The networks clearly reported a mistake, with 9,050 instead of 5,050 for Isle of Wight.
Nevertheless, even with the correct numbers, Webb up by less than 2,000 votes with 99.2% counted. Some counties have gone home and will finish tallying remaining votes in the morning.
So we won't know what the official final difference is until some time tomorrow, and then there will be the recount.
I realize now it's "Isle of Wight County" How do I fix a typo of my own?
Also, this seems to be breaking news, even if I broke it -- it's 100% certain I'm right. Can it get moved to breaking news?
Click on report abuse and ask the admin moderator to fix it....
FOX NEWS at @ 11;45pm(cst) reported that at least one county voter registar closed up shop before they even completed the initial vote count. That isn't kosher.
How about a new name of "Isle of Write-ing Fake Numbers for Rats"
It might not be careless at all. CNN probably knows the Dems will be bringing the 4,000 votes in any minute now from one of their inner city precincts that has not reported yet.
Damn straight that's a typo. The SBE website has Webb up by about 1800 and it hasn't been updated in half an hour--I guess everybody's gone home with some absentees left hanging (mostly in Webb-dominated areas).
That would explain why CNN was showing Webb ahead before the Commonwealth of Virginia was. Webb didn't actually pass Allen until Fairfax County added in two of their three absentee ballot precincts just before midnight.

"Nevertheless, even with the correct numbers, Webb up by less than 2,000 votes with 99.2% counted. Some counties have gone home and will finish tallying remaining votes in the morning."
EGADS ... Floriduh redux.
We lost. Give it up. Lets act like grownups and not end up like the SoreLoserman crowd. We already are losers tonight. I'd rather be a loser than a loser and a hypocrite.
Agreed. We lost. But when I posted this, Allen was still ahead -- and the typo is real. Even now, VA has Allen down by 8000, while CNN has him down by 12000.
