Vanity Unfair...did the "neocons" really question the war?
National Review Online ^ | November 5, 2006

Posted on 11/05/2006 10:07:29 AM PST by ilovew

Editor's Note: On Friday, Vanity Fair issued a press release highlighting excerpts of a piece in their January issue on “neoconservative” supporters of the war in Iraq who today, unsurprisingly, have some negative things to say about how the war is going and how the Bush administration has been handling it.

In the wake of the press release – which has gotten considerable play on the Internet – some of those “neoconservatives” highlighted in the article have responded to the excerpts and its misrepresentations, in some cases, of what they said. We collect some of those reactions — including from Eliot Cohen, David Frum, Michael Ledeen, Richard Perle, and Michael Rubin — below.

I didn't see that this was posted anywhere so I apologize if it was and I just couldn't find it. Is anyone surprised at all that Vanity Fair would twist the words of "neocons" to give the idea that they all hated the President and were turning against the war? I'm not.

This is news? The editor-in-chief at Vanity Fair is one of the most strident Lefties out there--even more so than most of the people on the Left.

Russert never reveals that his wife is an editor at this magazine.

Not only that, but the interviewees were promised that VF wouldn't release this until AFTER the election. VF lied, big surprise.

True...which makes me wonder why any of these individuals agreed to speak with VF to begin with.

Thanks for the post. If Vanity Fair wishes to be a liberal Democrat magazine, that's fine. But for them to claim any semblance of journalistic objectivity after this is a sham and a disservice to their readers.

why even give an interview to the press...especially the print media. they are so manipulative...

I think O'Reilly has it right when he says he doesn't do written press interviews because of just this type of manipulation. At least in video, there's a copy for the record.

"I think O'Reilly has it right when he says he doesn't do written press interviews because of just this type of manipulation. At least in video, there's a copy for the record."

Exactly! And even then, you have to make sure the video interview is not edited.

Whine, whine. So unfair, it was supposed to be after the election. David Rose lied to David Frum. And David Frum thought David Rose was a nice guy from the old Manhattan neighborhood, an urbanite, goes to the same restaurants, is an intellectual.

The magazine is called "Vanity" for a reason. These neos are careerists, and couldn't resist the lure.

Ann Coulter wouldn't have been fooled by the blandishments...
