The one and only comfort is knowing Mr Gonzales is NOT on the USSC (shudder)
By the way...that fact does concern me. If the Dems do win in Nov, wont they try to stack the courts (again) as well as provide a pathway for illegal Mexicans to vote?
For every so called "right wing" voter don't the Dems have an Illegal waiting in the wings?

Chapman is hardly a hero. The FBI was on their way to pick up Luster, [snip]Secondly, while people usually defend "Dog" by pointing out that Luster was brought to justice, he was on his way there before he was snatched, and Dog's stunt could very easily have lead to Luster's release in the U.S.
You perhaps should back this up with some facts and ones not generated by the FBI as they have been known to FIB energetically and often.

Which is it? Was Chapman operating illegally in Mexico? If so he needs to face the music. Was he working with U.S. agents? If so, why were these agents encouraging Chapman to break the law in Mexico. Too many questions need to be answered here.

Gonzalez had better let this one drop. First of all, turning an American citizen over to a foreign country for an act that isn't criminal in the US is borderline illegal. Utter nonsense. The legality of the action in the USA has absolutely nothing to do with it since the actions occured in Mexico. It's not illegal to grow a marijuana plant in your home in Alaska, but it's a hanging offense in Singapore. Translation: Don't grow pot plants in Singapore. The fact that it's legal in Alaska is completely irrelevant.
Turning a high profile, and by all accounts heroic celebrity that is immensely popular with your base over to Mexican authorities for the supposed 'crime' of capturing a fugitive from US Justice would absolutely erode base Republican support to the point of collapse
More nonsense. First of all it shouldn't matter how great the man's celebrity. Second of all, the law and order base wants the law to be respected and expects Chapman to be turned over. The only caveat is that the possibility that U.S. agents led him to believe he had the sacntion of the U.S. government.

There have been several here that cannot stop themselves from making her weight an issue and making fun of her. I thought that you were doing the same.

I'm thinking that the illegal detention charge isn't even extraditable. They're going after him for a conspiracy charge.
I don't disagree with your suggested solution.
No, the original illegal detention charge is a misdemeanor.

Yep.
I remember Tom Tancredo saying something to the effect that Mexico's economy will never improve because the corruption of the culture is so deeply embedded in every level, both civil and governmental. Corrupt societies always produce third world economies with lots of poverty, crime, ignorance and social unrest . Pouring money or tourism into a hell hole like Mexico (and countless other third world countries) will do nothing to alter the situation, no matter how many happy news resports there are about "investment" and "opportunity". Also, opening up our border to the south just welcomes the same type of mentality into the US and it will eventually drag US down to Mexico's level if the trend is allowed to continue.

"I know, expecting Attorney General Gonzales to enforce the immigration laws of the United States instead of the corrupt whims of the Mexican government is so out-of-line and liberal. What was I thinking? Amnesty now!!" That isn't what you nor what anyone else suggested. You said: "Bush appointed AG GONZALES, who is nothing but a stooge for the Mexican govt." You weren't thinking and you're still not. BS isn't effective anywhere on the spectrum.

Mexico handed over drug kingpin Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix within a day or so of the Dog being arrested.
This move by Mexico to try and get Chapman extradited has happened recently.

While I agree with this statement this is a high profile case and it clearly demonstrates that President Bush so very often puts Mexicans and the Mexican government first and Americans second. He has been getting pushed around by Mexico for so long and so publically he is endangering his very party as many, very many of us are sick of it.I first heard about this Chapman/Luster/Mexico story three years ago. I didn't hear anymore news reports about it again until just a couple of days ago. Am I to assume that President Bush has been actively pursuing this particular case and has caused the problems that now face Mr. Chapman?
What evidence does the Washington Post have to back up their statement, "The latest example of Washington's disturbing tendency to do Mexico's bidding concerns the popular bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman, whom U.S. marshals arrested last month." Exactly what "bidding" has Washington done with regards to Mexico wanting to have Chapman extradited to Mexico?
The story in the WA Post also says, "Now, three years later, Mexico wants him back to face charges and the U.S. government appears ready to cooperate." I haven't read any facts supporting that accusation. What has the U.S. government done that would lead one to believe they are "ready to cooperate" with Mexico on this topic?
When this story was posted the other day on FR, I commented then that I felt that Chapman deserves a medal not prison time in Mexico...which could be a death sentence for him since he wouldn't be very popular amongst the criminals.
