Sunday, October 8, 2006
It's hard to be a man; hard to live up to the demands that come with the dominant conception of masculinity, of the tough guy.

I like being a guy, thanks.
I'm going to go drive my truck and eat cheeseburgers, or is that just "perpetuating the stereotype"?

For those of us who are biologically male, we have a simple choice: We men can settle for being men, or we can strive to be human beings.
I was delighted to see your post! I don't have any complaints about most of the men I come in contact with, not by any means. There is nothing finer on this planet than a gentleman!!!

This would be sick, if it weren't so pathetic. This guy teaches young adults. And basically is saying that men who aren't wusses are not human beings.
How do you guys stand this kind of thinking?
My husband is a real man, and he doesn't dominate me, nor beat me, nor anyone else. His competitiveness is strictly amateur sports, and it's always good natured. It's how real men bond. Oh, and he's sweet to me.
To: MadIvan
And all this time I thought "being a man" meant sucking it up and doing the right thing.
All this author does is find human traits he disagrees with, types them as "masculine" then urge men to abandon them.

What a bunch of hooey. I hate agressive, boorish and immature dickweeds as much as the next guy, but (1) this is NOT masculinity, and (2) a society that ridicules true masculinity is doomed.

In 30 years, the image of a burly character wearing a flannel shirt and stepping out of a big 4x4 with heavy work boots will be solely reserved for the lesbians of the Northern California woodlands.
I live up here and it cracks me up to see them. Butch haircuts, big trucks and flannel shirts...no lie!

The problem with these gay writers in SanFranSissyCo is that men in the heartland have to wear rubber gloves ( Aids tainted blood) to beat the $hit out of them if they stray across the borders.
If these queers ever learn how to reproduce, its a safe bet that their children will look like $hit.
