I know. I was in parent mode when I wrote that.

Who knows that at 2AM mostly bad things happen when you let your guard down.

Such pain this has caused for family and friends.

Suspect in student's disappearance arrested on unrelated sexual assault charges

Police have identified Brian Rooney, 36, as a suspect in the disappearance and death of University of Vermont student Michelle Gardner-Quinn. Rooney, most recently residing in Winooski, was arrested and is currently in police custody on charges unrelated to the disappearance of Gardner-Quinn. Those charges include sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

Each of the charges stems from events that occurred several years ago, according to police. Rooney will be arraigned Monday on those charges in Vermont District Court on St. Johnsbury. He will be held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington until that time.

My mom said her mom was a neurotic back in the 40's. Growing up in the 70's in Yonkers my mom put the fear of god in me. I could not walk by doors, or cars, don't walk too close to the road, someone will pull me in their car....ect ect. I tell my 11 year old everyday and so does my mother about bad things that happen. I think scaring them about reality is what needs to be done at an early age.

The talks about "dangerous strangers" does not just apply to our young children. I think our college-aged children living away from home, or travelling on spring break are the most vunerable. They are older and think that these things only happen to others.

Like the disappearance of the young girl in Aruba...I still cannot conceive that friends are not staying together late at night!!! In college and even now...when out with friends for just dinner...we never walk to our cars alone!!! Never...never...never!!! Even at what would seem like the early hour of 9 or 10 at night. In college we always went into an establishment together and out with all the same friends. And there is no way that we would leave a friend behind who was either drinking...or had just met some wonderful guy...too bad...give him a number...and time to go. Oh...and even to the most athletic of women...I was and am one...you are never a match for a man..who wants to do you harm.

Prayers for this young woman and her grieving family. There are real monsters out in our socitey, and somehow it seems even more so than years past.

Reports I have heard is that the suspect is now held on child porn charges. Too many of the crimes against girls/young children are committed by recidivist pedophiles.

IMHO, these criminals, once convicted should NEVER leave prison, except in a plume of smoke out the prison incinerator. They are the lowest form of scum, not human and we should not treat them as such.
