Reagan later admitted he was wrong. He was also wrong about AIDS and he later apologized. Reagan knew he was fallible and so he aimed to self-correct. GW Bush will never admit he was wrong except to say he appointed somebody wrong for a job.

Now GW Bush ought to know that the 1986 Amnesty was a failure and his current push for 'comprehensive' blah is also wrong. But he cares not for Reagan followers and so he will 'stay his own course'. If it were not for the fact that the democrap party has been taken over by leftist dimwits and corrupt grafters, GW Bush would never have seen a 2nd term.

But he is thinking as a globalist just like his father. They have a 'plan', a plan for the North American Union.

And then there is a follow-on plan for a 'Union of the Americas'.

And yes it is entirely possible for a great percentage of the 20 million illegally here to go home.

Five years ago it was three million, then it was thought to be eight million, now twelve million but in reality it is probably 20+ million.

The twenty million will go home as they find it difficult to make a dollar in America. Local towns are now leading the way, later it will be the States. Congress will be irrelevant.

Considering that less than half of the illegals in the country even bothered to register for the amnesty program (and a third filed their papers), I would think that observing Reagan's footsteps would be the minimum involved. Amnesty doesn't work.

Amen. I understand that the President said he wanted to be more like Ronald Reagan than his dad, but with all due respect to the Gipper, I wish he'd be more like Ike Eisenhower. Ike took a year to deport a million illegals during his Administration. I resent the President (and McCain) insinuating that they're morally superior because they don't want to make illegals follow our laws (or suffer the consequences). Rather than making the President (and those who support him on this) look more "moral", their words and deeds on ILLEGAL immigration make them look like petty partisans (alternately afraid of, and pandering after, the "Latino vote", which they're not getting anyway).

We wouldn't have to kick them out if we put their employers in jail. Once their paychecks dry up, and they can't find work, they will deport themselves.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Bush is trying to destroy America. The public has made it clear that we don't want any kind of amnesty, and for him to make these kind of reckless statements it is going to hurt the GOP. IF the RATS gain control, they plan to impeach him. They've already said so. I don't appreciate what he's doing to our country.

"must" include a way for those already in the United States but without legal authorization to be given that status.<<<...YUP!..and anyone that has robbed a bank or committed a felony "must" be given that same status..

I am beginning to wonder if this issue is so dear to him that he would try and throw this election to the democrats so his amnesty bill can pass. These comments will only demoralize law and order Republicans with less than a month before the election.

You do have to wonder, don't you? The RNC is putting money into the Senate races (where "comprehensive amnesty" has already been approved), and not doing squat to support Speaker Hastert and the House (which has been the bulwark against illegal immigration). Limbaugh said that he tried to talk Rove down from supporting amnesty, but the boy wouldn't budge from his pet theory that the Republicans are doomed if they don't get that "Latino vote".

I see he's rolling out the red carpet, again.

An apalling and shameful dereliction of duty.

we must figure out a way to say to those that if you're lawful and if you've contributed to the United States of America, there is a way for you to eventually earn citizenship

President Bush must understand that most of us do not consider our borders to be the door to Les Nessman's office - it's not just a line of tape on the floor that you can cross at will.

Until that happens, and more politicians realize that this kind of solution is unacceptable, there will be no meaningful immigration reform.

But we also MUST acknowledge reality.

Yep. Get ready for a civil war... because it is coming... a great number of the Mexicans are not loyal to the USA...

Let them go to Mexico if they want to be Mexicans...

That was before the modern media - before the modern world. And it was 1 Million out of a population of 150 Million, versus twelvle million out of a population of 300 Million.

Mass deportation is not a practical answer. For starters, the Courts would stop it. Second, it wouldn't have Congressional support. Third, once the bad politics started to become clear, supporters would turncoat just like they did on Iraq.

The approach I prefer I like to call "soft deportation."

1) Build a fence.
2) Pass laws which make illegal life much harder. I'd start by targeting remittances back to their home nations.

But anyone who thinks that mass roundups could happen today is out of their mind. It's not politically feasible and sticking to it leaves you out of the practical debate.

Also, I'll add, that this story is written as as distorted a fashion as anything out of the MSM - it's simply slanted against the President in a different way.

"We will conduct this debate on immigration in a way that is respectful to our heritage," he said at a recent White House event honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. "We are a nation of law, and we will enforce our law.

To be "respectful to our heritage" we'd need to flood the country with Europeans.

I don't know what "law" he's talking about. Must be the illegal invader amnesty law yet to be passed.

Yes, I'm Mr. Amnesty--which is why I criticized Reagan for signing an amnesty into law, you moron.
