Evangelicals Fight Against an Independent Kosovo
http://www.campusprogress.org/page/community/post_group/main/C3v9 ^

Guy Dinmore, of the Financial Times, reports on the new mission shared by US evangelicals and Serbia's Christian Orthodox Church: quashing US support for an independent Kosovo.

Leading evangelicals, such as Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, have called on their supporters to pressure the United States to not permit independence for this Muslim-majority province. Along with Bishop Artemije, Kosovo's most senior Orthodox cleric, Robertson and Falwell are concerned that an independent Kosovo will become a new haven for Islamic terrorism.

For those of you in need of a refresher on US-involvement in Kosovo, Jurist gives a brief and useful overview of the US presence in Kosovo, and the protracted conflict that has engulfed this Muslim-majority province.

Kosovo, while considered a successful case of American military intervention, is by no means a done deal. While the province is under the administration of the United Nations, it faces an uncertain future. A new Serbian Constitution, not yet approved by Serb voters, considers Kosovo a province of Serbia. And while negotiations on Kosovo's status are ongoing, the lack of resolution has fueled recent attacks on Kosovo's Serbian minority.

This new Serbian push against an independent Kosovo comes with Serbia's recent accession to America's "coalition of the willing." Serbia has supported America's policies in the Middle East, and is now using this position to highlight their concern that an independent Kosovo would be a terrorist Kosovo.

The most recent sign of the blossoming US-Serbian cooperation is President Bush's October 3rd retraction of a 2002 ban on US military assistance to Serbia.

While many analysts do not foresee an independent Kosovo as a new outpost for Islamic terrorism, they are concerned about Kosovo turning into a failed state. Kosovo could become "a weak reliant on international aid and prone to exploitation by criminal gangs involved in drugs and human trafficking," reports Dinmore.

Keeping the Kosovo question unanswered is America's best bet for now. While producing an uneasy truce, it avoids a return to the all-out conflict that engulfed the region in the 1990s. Yet this diplomatic holding pattern cannot last indefinitely. And regardless of the final result, the losers of any US-backed decision will likely resort to violence. Of what duration and intensity depends on the adroitness of great-power diplomacy.

Will an independent Kosovo produce another West Bank in Eastern Europe? Odds seem against it for now, but even faint odds are frightening.

Personally, I think, IMVHO, that , given the terrorism of the "Islamofascists", the Serbian Christians should be supported by US and UN

the website has some interesting pictures about the nightmare for Christians in Kosovo

http://www.savekosovo.org

They were really screwed over in the 1990s. Now we are expected to sacrifice Kosovo for Moslems to be "peaceful" (for a time)

More bad news for the Dhimmis!

Life is sooooo good!

Revs. Robertson and Falwell are of the past; thus, no longer representative of actual so-called evangelicals.

Those two are only brought to remind non-so-called-evangelicals of James Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart [sp?].

"Revs. Robertson and Falwell are of the past; thus, no longer representative of actual so-called evangelicals"

Several people have said this, but no one has mentioned who their more modern equivalents are. Who are the new "Pat Robertson's" & "Jerry Falwells's"?

What most Americans fail to realize from the American Serb side, is that while perhaps Falwell and Robertson do not represent the consituencies that they once did, they still represent far more people than Serbs do here in the US. They may not possess as large and mobilized a force as the anti-Christian Libs are, but Kosovo Serbs need all the help that they can get!

I have thought and thought but I can't come up with anything less important than whether Kosovo is independent of Serbia.

On my list of worries it is located somewhere below reorganizing my sock drawer and color-coding the can good labels in the pantry.

Try to open your sock drawer from time to time...
And one day, you might even ware clean ones...
But those are just my 2 cents...

Your clean underware drawer, in the other hand...

Interesting statement from someone who also says: "To my mind anyone who professes to be Muslim is my enemy." And yet, you are apathetic about whether or not Christians and Christian land are handed over to Muslims who have no legal right to it? You have no care as to whether or not Islam has a new beach head in Europe from which to attack Europe and us?

Either you don't understand the issue, or you do and you don't care about Islam gaining ground. If it is the former, then it is time to educate yourself. If it is the latter, your statement about all Muslims being "your enemy" is then just so much hot air and it is probably time for you to get back to your sock drawer.

Toe sucking Dick Morris just told O'Reilly that he encouraged BJ Klintoon to bomb Bosnia because he thought he looked too weakened by the Monica story and he could have saved a quarter of a million lives. The lies continue....

["Kosovo, while considered a successful case of American military intervention..."]

Well, the Israelis recently modeled their offensive against Hezbollah based on the NATO's intervention in Kosovo...Now how successful was that?....Well it was a victory for radical Islam.

The Balkan Muslims have been at it since the 15th century, but the Serbs are a tough nut to crack. Here's an interesting site.

He is exactly right. I would say, 98% of Americans have absolutely no idea about the true politics of what is going on. The independence of Kosovo could very well spark a war or signficant rift between the U.S. and Russia that would absolutely cause Russia to deploy troops to the Middle East on the side of Iran and their coalition. This is not even speculation, it is a fact of nature. The reason is for the pipeline(s) coming from the Caspian, and AMBO....etc....you know the story. I don't even engage in political discussions with my fellow Americans after being over here for the past 10 years. They do mean well, but they have no clue for the most part. There are some, on here that are the exception and understand quite well. We talk to them now almost every day. Americans don't realize that not too far off in the future our market is going to crash.......this will start an unprecedented chain of events.

We, are concerned with making a living, spending weekends with families if you have one, or playing if you don't...the "Super Bowl", PGA whatever, Something or other Cup.....etc........we tend to believe what we hear, others believe nothing of what the news says......it's a mixed mash of folks.

So, the independence of Kosovo, protecting the stability of a very volitile region, that could very well effect the world if it explodes...

Kosovo is already the west bank of the balkans and albanians---the balkan palestinians.
