Spanish villages are abandoning the centuries-old tradition of burning effigies of the Prophet Muhammad for fear of offending Muslims.

The annual festivals...feature locals donning medieval costumes to re-enact battles between "Moors and Christians" during the Reconquista period.

The fiestas celebrate events in 1492, when the Catholic kings of northern Spain defeated and expelled Islamic forces, ending more than 800 years of Moorish rule in the Iberian Peninsula.

Traditionally the festivities have culminated with the burning of mannequins of the Mahoma, a figure based on the Prophet Muhammad, to represent the final defeat of Islam in the region.

People just don't get it. Unless something changes radically in the next 5 years, Western Europe will be lost to islam. France is almost there. In about 5 to 7 years, France will begin installing sharia law. Spain is next, along with the Netherlands. Germany and Britain will last longer, as much as 20 years perhaps. In that timeframe, Norway and Sweden will be compromised.

When you no longer believe in anything, it makes it harder to oppose those with strong beliefs. Real Christians in old Catholic Spain would have no trouble burning effigies of a phony prophet who spread much misery through the world. Even non-believers who believe in Spain and free market capitalism would not mind celebrating one of Spain's historical victories over the forces of evil. But the post-religious bohemians don't believe in anything except muddling through life, and so when faced with an implacable foe, they fold easily.

I'd like to see a "Red Dawn" movie that shows what an Islamic takeover of a western nation would look like. Maybe it would wake a few people up.
