"To get killed on something as minor as a traffic stop really drives home how dangerous the job is,"

I have a feeling that it had nothing to do with being stopped and everything to do with his being an illegal with a criminal record.

On another note, how did he get the gun into the back of the cruiser? When you are handcuffed, aren't you searched? Isn't that the reason for searching someone, to make sure they can't do something like this?

Let's hope that they don't forget to allow him to consult with the Mexican Consulate (as is his right under US treaty w/ Mexico). At least we don't have to worrow about Mexico not extraditing him because he's facing the DP.

some people are going to intervene for this scum because he's a Mexican National, giving him civil rights he obviously didn't care about enough to live in his own country.

My husband is a police officer and he cannot understand why the officer didn't search this guy better. That being said, I STILL hope this adds to the weight building against illegals.

The Mexican Consulate has already provided him with an attorney.

I am not trying to belittle what happened or trying to make excuses for the illegal. I was just trying to point out that had he been frisked, the cop would most likely be alive right now.

Take a page from Nicky Spilatro's book, and bury this POS in the desert.

Alive!

RIP, Rodney.

Can we make an INTERNATIONAL example of this illegal dirtbag?

Isn't it time we got serious about illegals?

It's way past time! Deport 'em. Build the Fence!

One of the primary reasons that cities have abandoned arresting illegals on immigration violations is the futility of it - they waste incredible man-hours & other resources arresting them, and the Feds won't take them off their hands, much less deport them.

Fortunately this is changing now...

FYI, Shelley Sekula-Gibbs (City Council member who's running for DeLay's seat) called on the mayor and the city to renounce our (don't call it a) sanctuary policy.

Seven or eight Council members walked out on her speech.

Houston is LIVID about this.

Good, didn't see that in this article. That probably constitutes allowing him to talk to his conulate, and also means that the PD's office won't have to defend him. Not that any attorney can help him much unless HPD or the DA really screws up here.

City of Houston, for starters, for declaring themselves a "sanctuary city."

We Houstonians didn't declare ourselves anything of the sort.

Our illustrious leaders, elected by the same teensy pocket of real estate with a 102% voter turnout that consistently elects Sheila Jackson Lee, is to blame for that.

And like I said, Houstonians are way hot about this. Calls are going out for the police chief to resign. (I'm one of the voices.)

Surprisingly, there's a small segment of FReepers that is pro-illegal alien. You won't find them on threads like this.

Hey Dane, got anything to add to this thread?

FWIW, several callers to Houston talk radio last week made that same point.

Actually, he's got 3 attorneys. I can't recall if one is the public defender. I do believe, though, that the Mexican consulate attorney is just assisting (but it should satisfy the legal requirement regarding notifying the consulate).
