Askins has improved one point since the last Survey USA poll. Henry has improved by five points.
How is this possible in Oklahoma?
Democrats lying about what left-wing moonbats they are, and the press not calling them on it.
DemocRATS running as Republicans lite.
if Brad Henry can win in OK by more than 10 points he will be the top Dem VP Candidate in 2008.
There must be someway Henry can be beaten.
You think so? I kind of doubt it. But he will win by way more than 10 and there's no way to stop him.
If he can win by 10 points in Oklahoma as a Democrat he will be a contender.
If this is any indication of Democrat prospects this election, the GOP is in for a bloodbath. I suspect six years of unrelenting negative propaganda from the MSM against Bush and the GOP Congress -- negative propaganda which has largely gone unanswered and unrebutted (if that's a word) -- is about to have it's effect this November. The only good news about a Democrat wipe-out of Republicans is that it comes this year, and hopefully will have the effect of a major slap in the face to feckless national Republicans, and will enable to party to regroup for 2008.
Lackluster Republican campaigning. To this day, I have not seen ONE Istook ad since the primaries.
I take heart in the optimism of Ken Mellman. And Rove. They are not sitting idle. Lastly, the MSM has toned down the bloodbath stories. Methinks the worm has turned. Time will tell...
To be honest, I do too. Frankly, I'm more concerned with the congressional elections than the state ones. Sure, I'll hate to see more govenorships and statehouses go to Dems, but it's absolutely essential that we keep control of Congress.
"AD BLITZ UNLEASHED Tue Sep 26 2006 18:25:05 ET The Republican Party has unleashed a long-planned battery of negative ads against Democratic challengers in House and Senate races across the country, employing the fruits of more than a year of research into the backgrounds of Democratic candidates. Just as Democrats have launched an unusually aggressive barrage of negative advertisements intended to tie Republican incumbents to an extremely unpopular Congress, and portray them as captives to big business, pharmaceutical concerns and the oil industry. NEW YORK TIMES reporter Adam Nagourney plans a Page One Splash for Wednesday, declaring: "The result has been what aides to both sides described on Tuesday as the most toxic midterm political environment in memory." Developing...
I have not seen one ad either from Istook or Hiett. Worst campaigns I have seen in a long time!
Sorry I don't agree. I think we will gain seats in both houses in 06. Also we must pass legislation requiring photo IDs to vote in federal elections. This as passed the house and is on th the Senate.
I have heard Gov Bredesen in TN is another one the Dems might look to in order to win some GOP leaning states. Also look for Gov Sebelius of KS to be mentioned as a VP candidate in '08.
Have you been riding in Kinky's tour bus with Willie? Pick up in both Houses? (/snickering)
Don't base it on Oklahoma as we have some of the worst candidates ever. Henry hasn't done anything and runs as a conservative Dem even though he isn't. He made deals with the Republican House of Reps here all the time instead of the Dems.
Look for Hiett to close the gap and beat Askins.
Istook has been a horrible candidate since day one for a variety of reasons including Abramhoff.
GOP is going to do just fine here in OK in our Federal elections. It is the statewide races that are bad. Also look for us to take the OK Senate and keep the House because we have a lot of good candidates running there as well. If J.C. had run for Governor, it would be a whole different story and Henry would be toast.
Can Istook get with it and eke out a win?
I've heard one Istook ad on the radio -after I've heard about 5 Henry ads.......
They are alive and well...even in OK.
We call him Gov. DoNothing.......
Istook is a horrible candidate for OK Governor. But then I have been saying that for months. You should have seen our primary where OK GOP decided kumbyka was the name of the game and you were not allowed to go after Istook.
His campaign staff is one of the most inept if not the worst I have seen in all my years being around campaigns. Going in his office makes you come out talking to yourself because most don't have a clue. He hired his campaign staff from CA.
He is also Mormon and there is a lot of shall we say less than honorable info coming out on that.
As, I don't think you understand the particulars of OK politics......
Chances are slim to none. I have been telling people around here to get involved in the Lt Governor's race since the Lt Governor is head of the OK Senate and we need that seat.
I think Hiett can win but Istook winning would mean Dems not voting which could happen but I see absolutely no enthusiasm for Istook, but then I don't see a whole lot for Henry either.
Istook got very arrogant during the primary including at a debate saying he didn't want to answer that question right now when it was his turn.
I hope I am dead wrong except if Istook won and kept his staff from the campaign. As inept as Henry is, Istook's staff is worse.
Cripes. Shame on Ernest. What a disappointment.
What did you think of that Istook ad? I received it in my email and was not impressed.
Spill the beans.
How can that possibly be....?
Well maybe I understand it...cause Henry is such an empty-headed suit...any staff would seem brillant next to him.
FWIW-
WOW! Istook is ahead according to that poll.
Is it a valid poll?
Just as valid as any other poll....the only poll that matters is in NOVEMBER (election day)!
GOOD news then. Thanks.
Thanks for the clarification. I don't follow OK politics much, just assumed it would be GOP.
That is a phoney poll run by his campaign staff. They only polled in the 5th District in precincts where they knew they would get results they wanted. The whole area knows it was a phoney poll because it has been posted everywhere. They did the same thing in the primary and why one of our Congressmen told Istook to lose his pollster.
The reporter at Red State is a member of the Istook campaign staff who was outed on one of the OK sites.
I asked if it was valid.
RM -- that is not a valid poll.
That was a phoney poll outed as being done by Wilson who is on his staff. His people outed the poll when they explained it was done in the 5th district in certain precincts. Same thing as the primary.
Why don't you concentrate on Hiett because we have a chance to take that seat and we really need it. Posting from Red State reporter from Istook office a phoney poll doesn't change reality.
It didn't seem very memorable, I remember the line from Henry's ads. -"There's the Washington way and then there's the Oklahoma way"
This was on while Rush Limbaugh was playing and I'm hearing a 5-1 ratio of Henry to Istook ads. Istook's being swamped by Henry, the polls don't surprise me.
Henry's ads on the radio remind me of Don Nickle's ads the last time he ran.
Cannot get over that Istook or OK GOP never answer back or go on the offense against Henry. You can hear the crickets chirping from the two camps.
All polls are phoney....untill the ballots are counted.
Carson ran more ads than Coburn too....money spent on ads doesn't equal voter turnout.
Just picked up this comment on OK GOP Chat on the Istook ad:
its convoluted, trite and makes my ears bleed. istook doesnt have time to make cutesy hits at henry and for the love of God just because we're okies doesnt mean to you need to communicate with us in western themed motifes. This is the california boys thinking they know how to talk to okies.
Finally, regardless of the method of delivery, which is awful, the message just isnt going to get istook over the top. The team is relying way to heavily on immigration. At the end of the day voters will see that issue as ultimately in the realm of federal politics and Henry (with his buttload of cash) will point to Istook as a member of the federal political sphere as wholly uninvolved in the issue until it became a political hot button this cycle. I can hear it now. I have been governor for three years, and when President Bush requested we send troops to the border I complied. You have been a Congressman for over a decade. Immigration is primarily a federal issue. What have you done Mr. Istook? - this just isnt going to cut it.
Okla is not like most states. A moderate liberal here is more conservative that many pubs in other states, i.e. Susan Collins. I did not vote for Brad Henry, have not voted for a dem in 30 yrs (give me a break I was a teenager back then). I will probably vote for Brad Henry this time. He is very quiet, non-abrasive & likeable. That's a breath of fresh air. Things are going well and people give him credit, although he probably has little to do with it, so why change. Don't read too much into this, the state is still strongly conservative. I can assure you that Hillary would be lucky, very lucky, to get 35% in this state.
Dr. Coburn had a good message and the base believed in what he was saying.
Maybe you like to follow the California crew that run Istook's campaign but most of us who have been around politics for a long time have no desire to get involved. Would hate to be as dumb as they think Oklahomans are with some of their ideas of what will play well in Oklahoma.
You cannot compare Coburn and Istook -- worlds apart along with campaign staffs. Dr. Tom had one of the best group of campaign people I have been around and Istook has the worst.
We had a real chance to take the Governor's office and make a difference but this state has a leadership void in Republican politics at the State level. When you allow your opponent to define you, the candidate is in trouble.
This reminds of Bob Dole in 1996 when we had a chance to take out Clinton and blew it.
There is a reason that Istook was encouraged to run by some folks.
If not supporting Istook wholeheartedly makes me a bad Republican in your eyes, then so be it, but I have my reasons and so do others why we will vote for him but not get fully involved in his campaign. If I have the info on him so do the Dims and if he gets close to Henry and it comes out it can hurt our entire ticket.
We need to protect those down ticket which is why Hiett needs our support.
Oaklahoma actually is a majority D state. It's just that they are all Reagan Democrats.
They still like Republicans for national office, but they like D's for State Office.
And in fairness, unlike some supposed conservative D's, many Oaklahoma D's are moderately conservative. It's not like Henry has governed like Jim Doyle.
My ballot is going to have blank spaces in it where I am not voting for a particular race. I don't vote for Dems but I refuse to vote for unethical Republicans and ones that do push polls which happened in a house district(s).
I'm really, really hoping that Watts runs for either Governor or Senator in the near future. He's too talented to let him get away with only 8 years in the house.
I am hearing behind the scenes is that it is J.C. for OK Governor in 2010! I was hoping he would run this time but the timing wasn't quite right.
Oklahoma.
Not "Oak-lahoma".
An oak is a tree.
