Carson ran more ads than Coburn too....money spent on ads doesn't equal voter turnout.

Just picked up this comment on OK GOP Chat on the Istook ad:

its convoluted, trite and makes my ears bleed. istook doesnt have time to make cutesy hits at henry and for the love of God just because we're okies doesnt mean to you need to communicate with us in western themed motifes. This is the california boys thinking they know how to talk to okies.

Finally, regardless of the method of delivery, which is awful, the message just isnt going to get istook over the top. The team is relying way to heavily on immigration. At the end of the day voters will see that issue as ultimately in the realm of federal politics and Henry (with his buttload of cash) will point to Istook as a member of the federal political sphere as wholly uninvolved in the issue until it became a political hot button this cycle. I can hear it now. I have been governor for three years, and when President Bush requested we send troops to the border I complied. You have been a Congressman for over a decade. Immigration is primarily a federal issue. What have you done Mr. Istook? - this just isnt going to cut it.

Let them set their agenda and strike back with too little time left for them to respond. Is that Rove's October surprise?.

Okla is not like most states. A moderate liberal here is more conservative that many pubs in other states, i.e. Susan Collins. I did not vote for Brad Henry, have not voted for a dem in 30 yrs (give me a break I was a teenager back then). I will probably vote for Brad Henry this time. He is very quiet, non-abrasive & likeable. That's a breath of fresh air. Things are going well and people give him credit, although he probably has little to do with it, so why change. Don't read too much into this, the state is still strongly conservative. I can assure you that Hillary would be lucky, very lucky, to get 35% in this state.

Dr. Coburn had a good message and the base believed in what he was saying.

Maybe you like to follow the California crew that run Istook's campaign but most of us who have been around politics for a long time have no desire to get involved. Would hate to be as dumb as they think Oklahomans are with some of their ideas of what will play well in Oklahoma.

You cannot compare Coburn and Istook -- worlds apart along with campaign staffs. Dr. Tom had one of the best group of campaign people I have been around and Istook has the worst.

We had a real chance to take the Governor's office and make a difference but this state has a leadership void in Republican politics at the State level. When you allow your opponent to define you, the candidate is in trouble.

This reminds of Bob Dole in 1996 when we had a chance to take out Clinton and blew it.

There is a reason that Istook was encouraged to run by some folks.

If not supporting Istook wholeheartedly makes me a bad Republican in your eyes, then so be it, but I have my reasons and so do others why we will vote for him but not get fully involved in his campaign. If I have the info on him so do the Dims and if he gets close to Henry and it comes out it can hurt our entire ticket.

We need to protect those down ticket which is why Hiett needs our support.

Oaklahoma actually is a majority D state. It's just that they are all Reagan Democrats.

They still like Republicans for national office, but they like D's for State Office.

And in fairness, unlike some supposed conservative D's, many Oaklahoma D's are moderately conservative. It's not like Henry has governed like Jim Doyle.

My ballot is going to have blank spaces in it where I am not voting for a particular race. I don't vote for Dems but I refuse to vote for unethical Republicans and ones that do push polls which happened in a house district(s).

I'm really, really hoping that Watts runs for either Governor or Senator in the near future. He's too talented to let him get away with only 8 years in the house.

I am hearing behind the scenes is that it is J.C. for OK Governor in 2010! I was hoping he would run this time but the timing wasn't quite right.

I didn't vote for Istook in the primary, but if Oklahomans are DUmb enough to fall for the same dirty tricks the DUmocrats have pulled in the past, so be it....they'll just end up with another Brad Henry to complain about.

I have to agree with those talking about what Istook's campaign has been like.

I haven't seen a single ad. It's like he's not even trying against Henry. If that poll from his campaign was even close to the truth you would think he'd actually be campaigning... but wait! He's not! I wouldn't be surprised if Istook isn't responsible for hurting Hiett in the LT Gov race.

Sounds goot to me.

Governor in 2010, President in 2016!

Yes, but he's from MONTANA. Montana is A. A VERY sparcely populated state, B. A very unique state. What makes you popular in Montana probably doesn't work anywhere else.

Schwitzer's career tops out at being the Secretary of Agraculture under some D. There's no way he'll ever be President.

Ever notice that even the most Liberal Republican struggle to get reelected in a blue state, while a Conservative phony Dem or a moderate( Oklahoma,Arizona etc) incumbent breeze through reelection?

So....let me dissect this.

You haven't voted for a dim in 30 yrs....but you think Henry is worth your vote...because he's quiet non-abrasive and likeable?

Why don't you just write in a bar of soap....they smell good too.

Seems to be a few DUmocrats on this forum that are pulling for a DUmocrat win (or will sell out to the Jackass Party because their guy didn't make it through the primaries).

Henry is not my choice by a long shot, and I will vote for Istook. I just want people to know that Istook is NOT indicative of what is going to happen with Republicans across the Country. He may have an impact on our ticket here but I didn't want anyone getting skittish.

I am disgusted with the State GOP as well as Istook for allowing Henry and the Dims to define him and neither answer which happened in the Largent race. We have got to get better candidates in this State.

Askins had an ad that talked about her working with Henry in a bi-partisan manner and both are democrats. Not a peep was heard taking her to task that she is the same party as Henry.

One of the most frustrating elections I have witnessed to date. I didn't support Istook in the primary because I was afraid he would get clobbered by Henry and maybe a fresh, honest face would do better against Henry. The letter put out by OK GOP basically tanked the other candidates and gave it to Istook. This Baptist State will reelect one of their own is my best guess which I really hate to say because we had a real chance to take back the Governor's Mansion but we are in trouble until we get a strong candidate to run.

There was a lot more going on behind the scenes on this nomination then people imagine. Basically OK was sacrificed to give us four more years of Henry.

When a member of your campaign is your pollster who has been known to do phoney polls in the past, is the person behind the horrible push polls Cornett did against Fallin and Bode, and cuts off good advice from some of our elected officials, your campaign is in trouble. And that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Thoroughly disgusted with OK politics.

Watch your freep mail!
