House Votes to Require Proof of Citizenship to Vote
WASHINGTON — The House voted Wednesday to require Americans to show proof of citizenship in order to vote, and the Senate moved to build a 700-mile fence along the Mexican border as Republicans sharpened attacks on illegal immigration before the midterm elections.
The 228-196 House vote on a new photo ID plan and the Senate's consideration of the fence were both part of a get-tough policy on illegal immigrants that Republicans have embraced after Congress' failure to agree on broader legislation that would set a path for undocumented workers to attain citizenship.
House GOP leaders have insisted that tighter borders and tougher laws must precede more comprehensive immigration changes. The House passed the fence bill last week and plans votes Thursday on other enforcement measures: to increase penalties for people building tunnels under the border, make it easier to detain and deport immigrant gang members and criminals and clarify the ability of state and local authorities to detain illegal immigrants.
Republican sponsors of the voter identification bill said it was a commonsense way to stop fraud at the polls. People need photo IDs to board planes, buy alcohol or cash checks, said Rep. Vernon Ehlers, R-Mich., chairman of the House Administration Committee. "This is not a new concept."

House Judiciary Committee Approves Landmark Bills Fighting the War on Terror (HRs 6054&5825) WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The House Judiciary Committee today approved two landmark bills fighting the War on Terror. The first, H.R. 6054, the "Military Commissions Act," establishes terrorist tribunals and was approved without amendment by a 20-to-19 margin. All 17 Democrats today voted against this legislation, which overwhelmingly passed the House Armed Services Committee last week by a 52-to-8 margin.
The second bill, H.R. 5825, the "Electronic Surveillance Modernization Act," updates and reforms the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to fight the modern terrorist threat and provides increased congressional and FISA Court oversight of surveillance operations. After adopting five amendments, the Committee approved this legislation by a 20-to-16 margin with all Democrats again voting in opposition. Both of these bills are expected on the House floor next week.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman stated, "This Committee today approved two major bills to fight the War on Terror, unfortunately, without a single vote from my Democratic colleagues. The terrorist tribunals legislation provides congressional authorization to establish a fair and effective procedure to prosecute dangerous terrorists. Hot Dog, finally getting some big things done! It's a start. Especially that fence on the 700 easiest to cross miles of the border. And the Democrats opposing these bills will hurt them in November. They are widely supported measures among the American people and I believe the Dimocrats are making a HUGE miscalcualtion in opposing these bills. VERY stupid. The House and Senate GOP leadership is doing a great job getting the Democrats on the record the weeks before the election. GREAT to see. :)

Did anyone see Glenn Becks show on HNN last night about the attacks set to hit America sometime in the neear future that would be bigger then 9-11? Some Al Qaeda spokesman told all Muslims in America to get out immediately. It was pretty chilling. Everyone praying for the FBI and NSA and everyone else in the Department of Homeland Security to be given guidence and wisdom in finding these people and stopping the attacks would be a good idea. Any such attaks would likely be chemical, biological, or God help us, nuclear. That show "Jericho" last night might be prophetic. If an attack of that kind takes place, I can't even imagine full recovery. Anyone opposing military response after that should be shot as a traitor.
