Sept. 18, 2006, 3:14PM Willie Nelson cited for marijuana in Louisiana
Associated Press
LAFAYETTE, La. Willie Nelson and four others were issued misdemeanor citations for possession of narcotic mushrooms and marijuana after a traffic stop this morning on a Louisiana highway, state police said.
The citations were issued after a commercial vehicle inspection of the country music star's tour bus, state police said in a news release.
"When the door was opened and the trooper began to speak to the driver, he smelled the strong odor of marijuana," the news release said. A search of the bus produced 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of narcotic mushrooms, according to state police.
Nelson's publicist, Elaine Shock, declined immediate comment.
Also cited were Tony Sizemore, 59, of St. Cloud, Fla.; Bobbie Nelson, 75, of Briarcliff, Texas; Gates Moore, 54, of Austin, Texas; and David Anderson, 50, of Dallas.
Each was released after being issued a citation.
Nelson, 73, has recorded songs including On the Road Again and City of New Orleans.
For the life of me, I can't see how he's ever earned a nickel singing anything. Too bad he's news.
...and Toby already learned his lesson.
Louisiana? Inspecting buses? I didn't know they could find any.
Narcotic mushrooms????
I hope I can live to do some when I'm 75...
Shroon bump.
C'mon, only 0.2 pounds of mushrooms? I'd be embarassed.
Bwahaha - good one.
always heard that his herb was top shelf
I just couldn't wait to find out for myself
Don't knock it till you tried it, well I tried it my friend
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again

I learned a hard lesson in a small Texas town
He fired up a fat boy and he passed him around
The last words I spoke before they tucked me in
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My party's all over before it began
You can pour me some old whiskey river my friend
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
I hopped on his old bus, the Honeysuckle Rose
The party was Vegas, it was after the show
Alone in the front lounge, just me and him
With one parting puff grime creeper set in
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My party's all over before it began
You can pour me some old whiskey river my friend
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
Now we're passing the guitar, telling good jokes
I know ones a coming cause I'm smelling smoke
No I do not partake, I just let it pass by
With a smile on my face and a great contact high
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My party's all over before it began
You can pour me some old whiskey river my friend
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
In the fetal position with drool on my chin
I messed up and smoked weed with Willie again
Say it ain't so Willie, say it ain't so....(sob)...
Willie Nelson smokes weed? Who knew?
Joe Six-Pack would have been hauled off to jail and a "For Sale by State of LA" sign would have been put on the side of the bus.
Then the LSP would have raided his house, arrested his wife, "rescued" his children, and put another For Sale sign on the house.
Maybe ole' Willy will think of ole' Joe, the next time he roll's another one.
Something is amiss here ........ oh wait .... it's Louisianna.
that wasn't a mushroom, it was Cindy Sheeman.
He has the talent but poor judgement! I sure hate to say that against a former neighbor of mine!
Bravo! Put him away!
Double shroom and herb bump.
throw the book at him.
Was Cindy there?
Would I have been given a citation or arrested and had my RV impounded?
As an attorney, I am sick and tired of wasting resources prosecuting this stuff. If people want to fry their brains and stilt their motivation, let them. Driving, flying, operating, practicing law while high can be outlawed. Get law enforcement to focus on fraud, stealing, robbery, and violent crime and stop pretending to enforce the law by taking up everyone's time and resources with drug enforcement.
Pound and a half isn't distribution weight? I know. I know, it's Willy... Pound and a half is probably akin to him running on fumes.
I suspect you or I wouldn't have walked away with 1 1/2 pounds. But I don't know about La. drug laws.
A fungi to be with!
Let's just say that the average citizen better not speed thur La on I-10.
Totally agree. I've listened to Willie for decades.. the man is 73, he ain't gonna change any lifelong habits now... besides, it hasn't wrecked his musical ability. If he's got somebody else doing the driving, why should I care if his recreational drug of choice is the 'shroom, pot or Southern comfort? War on (some) drugs? Why not a war on car theft?
At least those cops weren't pulling over a truckload of illegal aliens.
I agree. Adults should be responsible for themselves but I want responsibility and very high jail terms for people driving under the influence. That said, what makes Willie so special? If I would have gone to jail, he and his buddies should have been arrested too.
I'm shocked, shocked.
To me this is about as significant a new item as "Jim Carrey cited for coffee in Boston". Who cares? He wants to smoke marijuana. Let him.
Shocking!

Lord I just could not wait to find out for myself.
Well don't knock it till you've tried it.
And I've tried it my friend.
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again!
Now we learned a hard lesson in a small Texas town
He fired up a fat boy and he passed it around
The last words I spoke before they tucked me in
I may discount bungee jump but,
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again.
[Chorus:]
I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My party's all over before it begins
You CAN pour me some old whiskey River my friend.
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
We hopped on his old bus the Honeysuckle Rose
The party was Huntsville, but it was after the show
Alone in the front lounge, just me and him
I took one friendly puff and the grim creeper set in
[Chorus]
Now we're passin' the guitar, we're tellin' good jokes
I can tell one's a comin' 'cause I'm smellin' smoke
No I do not partake I just let it pass by
With a grin on my face and a great contact high
[Chorus]
In the fetal position with drool on my chin
We broke down and smoked weed with Willie again
The good news is when the old hippie dies they wont have to embalm him. The bad news is it hasn't happened yet.
Maybe the government should stay the f**k out of our personal lives.
Because a War on Car Theft won't give the cops an excuse to dress up like Navy Seals and buy machine guns?
"For the life of me, I can't see how he's ever earned a nickel singing anything. Too bad he's news."
You must be kidding. Willie is not only a singing master, he is one of the finest song writers to ever pick up a pin. I personally despise his politics, but love him as a performer and artist. He has given me enormous pleasure over the past fifty years.
Who knows what political winds drove Michaelangelo, but whatever they were, they did not diminish his great gifts.
You go into any two-quarter, three-dime bar and try to get the band to play one of his songs and they will decline because God only made that gravelly voice one time.
"On the Toke Again"
ya don't say.
Did you ever try to dry mushrooms? You have to turn the ceiling fan off.
This is the state that had a long legal debate a couple of years ago about drive-thru windows serving mixed drinks in half-gallon containers. The bottom line is that the free-trade group made a compromise with the anti-drunk-driving group: If the establishment doesn't put the straw in the half-gallon ready-to-drink Hurricane before they hand it to the driver, but instead hands it to him still in its wrapper, they're not encouraging drinking and driving.
I wish they'd leave Willie alone. Screw the government.
"God only made that gravelly voice one time."
To each his own.
Pardon Willie.
You can bet LSP called the idiot Governor for her input. Can you just see those pictures of Willie and crew being shackled and given a tour of the local jail?
Louisiana Law = most prisoners = most waste = most ignorance
Got to wonder if this is going to set precedence in LA?
I have heard stories of people going to jail, and losing their house for less. Property confiscation is big business for LA law enforcement.
Story just announced on local news. They are probably having a riot at the local jail.
NEWS AT 10!
,,, and this is something new?
"Willie Nelson cited for marijuana in Louisiana"
The hell you say!
an you imagine the traffic jams if they drank and sat still?!?!?!
Quick! Return tickets to Willie's upcoming shows for a full refund! Not worth seeing until he resupplies his stash!
Has Willie been cited for marijuana in all 50 States?
