Alliance wins - Persson concedes
Fredrik Reinfeldt is to be Sweden's new prime minister. He has declared victory, Göran Persson has said he will resign as prime minister and as leader of the Social Democrats.
Reinfeldt claimed victory in his first adress to the crowds gathered at the Moderates' election party. Arriving on stage at 10.50 to a rousing first-name chorus, chants and flag-waving.
It was an emphatic speech where he did all but declare himself as Sweden's new Prime Minister.
"The Swedish people have voted," he began. "We have won as the new Moderates; we dared to challenge ourselves, we dared to develop and this is the best result for us in modern times. Those who left us in the last election have come back to us."
Göran Persson told his party colleagues that all was lost.
"Now the election is done and counted and we didn’t get our majority,” said Persson in his concession speach late Sunday night in Stockholm. “We have lost the election, but we are not a beaten party. We will fight back.”
"Tomorrow I will go to the speaker and hand in my resignation," he told supporters as they cheered in support.
Persson said he would “not lead the comeback” and that he would be stepping down next March to let a younger leader step forward. He didn’t mention who, but he said, “It is not up to me."
"I will miss you, and strange as it might seem it is with a sense of companionship and power that I go."
Now maybe -- maybe -- Sweden will do something about Muslim immigration and residents, as the Dutch are doing.
If they do, perhaps this will strengthen what seems to be a late (I hope not too late) right-wing trend in Europe to confront the Muslim invasion.
YEAH!!! Maybe the tide will turn. . .
(All right, maybe pigs will fly on their own volition, but, it's a start!)

And now the Swedes have to deal with all the extreme leftist bureacrats that have been hired over the last 12 years and like zebra mussels have burrowed into the government.

Social Democratic leader and ex Prime Minister Göran Persson has done a great job in keeping his ex-communist and green allies out of real influence for 12 years and for this effort I wish to salute him!
Göran Persson is the best social democratic prime minister Sweden has ever had. He has - Perssonaly - paved the way for solid GDP growth, investments and an even more healthy ethics of work than existed in Sweden during the golden years of the 1960's when GDP growth was around 5% each and every year.
Today it's 5.5% and by all means a successful Swedish economy combined with a conservative government will set an aXX-kicking example to the rest of Europe, take my word for it!

My relatives in Sweden are all commie sympathizers.
Only problem with Mexico is that the left there refuse to give up and admit that they lost the election. We could be looking at civil war there soon.
But you're right. The current trend in voting is to go to the right. I couldn't be happier. :) Spain is... well, Spain. ;)

on ABC's evening news...I must have blinked when it was mentioned.
I'm sure this thing is getting a press embargo or warped spin by the MSM.
Sweden isn't one of the "leading" european countries (it isn't big enough population wise), all the same Sweden has a great deal of prestige in the EU.
Hopefully, a government lead by swedish conservatives in combination with the the affluence and rapid economic growth (of around 5%) of Sweden will make the rest of zero-growth Europe open their eyes.
Lutheran work ethics - that's really somethin'.

Is a Swedish "moderate" equivalent to a U.S. liberal Democrat?
I would say not. The swedish moderates are pro-WOT and more corporate friendly than US democrats.
I also believe swedish conservatives to be better educated and more aware than US democrats of what values and what efforts really shaped western civilization into western civilization.
On a long term, this might prove to be a greater victory for western values than anyone could have imagined.

Thank you for your moral support, but, as I guess you understand, this is an affordable price to pay for resurrecting a country that is destined to once and for all prove to the world that ANTI-PRODUCTIVENESS/SOCIALIST/ENVIROMENTALIST societal concepts DOESN'T WORK.
This very day, Sweden has gotten rid of a Social Democratic-Green government (in which the greens and communists have enjoyed very little influence thanks to Göran Persson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6ran_Persson ) replacing it with a conservative-centre alliance.
Sweden already is very prosperous and our economy growing rapidly.
