Long ago I received my doctorate from the evil university. I thought it was bad then and I didn't really fit in with the bed wetters at the time. I am so glad I got out of the academic sh!t a long time ago. Where I work now we have discussion about the merits of the M-16 vs the Kalisnikov, changing the barrel on an m-2 under fire, the horrendous cost of illegal immigrations and other topics that would cause instant enuresis in the PC set.
How can you even ask? Of course it is Bush's fault.
vaudine
My parents never had any trouble getting me to try new foods.
Why should the federal government be funding local school lunches at all? I can see if it's something having to do with kids who are on welfare or something like that, but overall, school lunches should be part of whatever the local schools spend as overhead.
I'm shocked at how many parents today will fix each child their favorte food at a meal.....chicken nuggets for this kid, PB&J for that one etc.
And never, EVER serve a vegetable. "Well, I don't like them either." Setting the example means at meals also.
I've seen it first hand that kids would rather eat nothing than eat vegetables. Unfortunately, if you filled a kid's lunch plate with nothing but tofu, broccoli and salad, it would all end up in the trash. If you offered chicken nuggets, broccoli and salad, the nuggets would be eaten, but the rest thrown in the trash.
Eating junk is an preference kids acquire at home and they don't leave that behind when they go to school.
More nanny state BS from the usual suspects. We have always sent our kids to school carrying their own lunches. Problem solved unless you are dependent on the goberment for your every need. Now who's fault is that?
I don't mind providing free lunches for school kids. I'd rather provide food, then give their parents money or food stamps.
However, it could just be something simple: a piece of fruit and a simple sandwich (peanut butter or turkey), and some milk. If kids don't like it, then they can take their own lunch to school. Also, a lunch like I mentioned will not contribute to obesity.
And if memory serves me right, the budget for the Dept. of Ed. has DOUBLED under President Bush. DOUBLED!
